We have now been to Cambodia and visited the capital Phnom Penh (which?we now know how to say by the way!)?
Phnom Penh is a busy city, and is nowhere near as scary as people make out! After arriving at the airport and getting picked up in?a tuk tuk (a trailer with a roof and seat towed by a moped!) we were pretty scared as we were being driven through the streets due to what we had heard.? We have read so many warnings about Cambodia and in particular the capital, but lukily we wern't affected and didn't ever feel that we were in any immediate danger.? There were plently of tales from other travellers though about the things that have happened to others.
The main attraction (if you can call it that) in Phnom Penh is the Killing fields, which is where Pol Pot?killed thousands of innocent people in the late 70's.? We took a tour around Phnom Penh which took us there as well as the S21 museum which is the prison where the innocent were tortured until they?sent to the killing fields for extermination.? It's unbleieveable that something so horrific happened just 30 years ago and for what seems like no reason at all.? It was a really sad start to the day and all we kept asking ourselves was "why?".? In the afternoon we went into Phnom Penh centre where we visited the Royal Palace and other monuments and temples around the city.
