Today while we were driving to Wadi Rum, we stopped and went on a camel ride and a jeep ride to our camp. First the camel rides. When we started walking towards the camels I got butterflies in my stomach. Then when I got on the camels, I actually felt like I was going to throw up. I got on the strange looking beast as it knelt on all fours, then added to my upset stomach the fear as they climbed up off the ground that I was going to fall off. They lean way forward as they unfold their super long legs. We took off into the desert. At first I felt like I was going to fall off with their super long stride, but then I got comfortable. They walked along the red and yellow sand, and patches of dry cracked earth. Instead of tumble weeds there were McDonalds bags rolling around on the ground- sadly, the modern tumbleweed. We climbed up a dune, and all of the sudden a dust storm fell upon us. My camel felt like it was going to blow right over. No wonder that dune was there, the wind must like to swirl all the time at that very spot. You could see sand vortexes in spots all over the desert, as you look out with nothing but sand for miles.
After the camels, we had some lunch and then jumped onto some jeeps. We made 3 stops. My favorite was a big red thing. Can you guess what the big red thing is?????
It was a big red sand dune!!!!!
This big red sand dune was soooooo fun. Climbing the sand dune was not that fun, it was hard work fighting the gravity that tried to keep me down. But running back down it was the most fun thing in the world. I just slid down the entire time, this time gravity was my friend. The color of the sand was beautiful, it was a rich red color.
Our camp was soooooo nice. There were two beds in each tent, and we had three tents. We moved our cot into one of the other tents, so it was the kids together and the mom and dad together. Our dinner that night was traditional food like Pita bread with rice, chicken, veggies, and fish covered in middle eastern spices like zatar.

Gran Captain O, I was thrilled that you are taking me back to that exciting time. I have never even been close to a camel so your description was helpful and quite visual. Sounds like it was a blast of fun!! Good memories are awesome! Love, Gran
