The world is my school and today I learned why Chinese celebrate New Year in February not December. They celebrate it in February not December because it marks the new lunar new year. It is in February because they don't use the Gregorian calendar but they use the Chinese calendar which is tied to the cycles of the moon.
Today we went to Ikea to get my mom a mattress pad. The beds are like boards here. A while after that we went to a traditional Chinese dinner and Chinese New Year night parade. The dinner was at a Chinese/ international place. We did not have anything like goose feet but we did have Chinese food. I can tell you some of the dishes but not all. One of the dishes was corn soup with chunks of shrimp and crab in it. Another one was like fish sticks with honey and lemon on it. There were also beef sticks which were just sticks of beef. Tofu, which tasted like roasted chicken on the outside and tofu on the inside. All the food was put on a big Lazy Suzan and we all shared the dishes. There were two different kinds of chopsticks. Black ones and white ones. The white ones you used to eat the food off of your plate. The blacks one are used to get the food that you want off of the serving plate. That is all of the main course I can remember, now for the dessert. The first dessert was a mini thing of cheese cake with chocolate drizzled over it. The next thing that we had was a warm round donut with sesame seeds on the outside of it. If you go to pictures you can see a picture of it. The last thing that everyone had except for me was red rice in coconut milk. All of the food was great.
After dinner it was time to see the Chinese New Year night parade. I was sooooo excited because we got seats at the stage- it is the best location in the house or should I say outside of the house because the parade is outside. We are right at the begging of the parade, which is where they do all of the cool stuff because all the cameras are there. Also they stop and do a performance where we are but not at the rest of the parade. I here boom, boom, pow. After that the parade started with balloons and dancers. There were a bunch of different dances from a bunch of different countries. There were also a bunch of different floats. There were Snakes, Lions, and dragons in the parade. A long with a lot of insects. I forgot to tell you but on every seat there are these little packages. In side of them are 4 marshmallows, 1 water bottle, 1 flashlight. There is also a raincoat, and bangers. Before the parade we went to a cafe and met the Seattle Sea Hawks cheerleaders. They are soooooo pretty!!!!!!!! In the parade they were the last to perform because they were the best. The parade was great so please go to pictures and videos. To get back home we took the STAR ferry back to Hong Kong Island. Once we got off of the ferry it was a pretty long walk back to the hotel. At least we met a nice girl during dinner that is staying in the same apartments as us. She showed us how to get on the ferry. Then to thank her we showed her how to get back to the apartment from the ferry. She was staying 12 floors above us.
That was my day because the rest is me sleeping.
Thank you and please comment.
