Today was the first day we went out in Hong Kong without my Dad. We were sooooo scared and just wanted to stay in the apartment until an angel fell from the sky and helped us. This lady saw us all huddled up on the sidewalk looking at the map and decided to help us because she imagined if that was her with her 8 children. She was sooooo nice and helped us find our way to the Peak Tram, which I will tell you about soon. She also helped us find the hidden path to Central. She showed us on the map. We did not go right away but she showed us the way. We would never have found it with out her!! Guess why? The gate to it is half way closed, there are no signs showing the path, and it is in the back of a parking lot behind a building. No one would have ever found there way to it with out someone else showing it to him or her. Anyway when she was done showing us all of that she gave us her phone number. It was soooooo nice for her to help us and then to top that she gave us her phone number. My mom was about to cry. This lady was sooooooooooooooooooooo nice!!!!!! After the angel fell down we took The Peak Tram up to The Peak. The Peak is a place where you can see all of Hong Kong Island. In May 1881, Scotsman Alexander Findlay Smith had a plan to make a new tram system. In 1888 the Peak Tram became the first cable car in Asia. The Peak Tram is the most visited site in Hong Kong, it has been featured in movies and television. It was featured in the 1950's movie, Soldier of Fortune. It was also in an episode of the Love Boat. It extends 1,350 meters and is home to about 30-40 families. The original carts were made of varnished timber. They had open rows of seats at the front and back of the cart. The middle was closed. Between 1908 and 1949 a brass plaque was put on the back of two seats that said, "This seat is reserved for His Excellency, the Governor." No one could sit in these seats until there is two minutes left until the tram leaves. This was done in case the Governor might appear without him telling people. That is about the Tram now I am going to tell you about the rest of my day. The only other thing that I want to talk about is that a girl asked us if she could take a picture of us today. Now I felt like a Disney character!!!!! If you were asked to have your picture taken what would you do? I know I would say yes and smile for the picture. That's what I did. My Mom says they love my hair (the sun has made it blonde) against my eyebrows, which are big and dark brown. That's what they say anyway- they always point to my eyes and say something Chinese with a smile.
Well that was my day.
Thank you and please comment.

Jupiter Jen What a wonderful experience. I have two friends who have taught school in China and both of them said that the Chinese are very curious about "Westerners." My one teacher friend has blond hair and blue eyes and people kept coming up and touching her hair and skin. It sounds like you are a real life attraction for the locals. I'm sure they were also struck by how beautiful and kind you were to them.
Gran Gautney Captain O, you are communicating wonderfully about both facts and the feelings you have about your experiences. Both enrich me. Angels are in every country and come in all shapes and sizes. I am so happy that you met some Asian ones!! Love, Gran
Aunt DeeAnn Hi there! I can't believe the exciting times you are having. You are very lucky that your Mom is such an adventurer -- she is brave to be charting new territory without your Dad! We love you and miss you guys -- keep those blogs coming.
Paige Olivia, I can't believe that someone wanted to take your picture. They must not see many Americans. My Dutch neighbors told me they were like a tourist attraction when they went to China. What a unique experience. I hope you enjoy the New Years celebration! Stay brave and help your mom out. I am sure it is hard without your dad but he will be back before you know it. I can't wait to read more. Love, Paige
Aunt Amy The sightseeing alone is so amazing, but I enjoy reading the other dynamics of your experience... Like the angel that came to help you (so wonderful for your family a world away to hear first hand how God is watching over you all through his angels :)!!), and how you are a "sight to see" for the locals! I am impressed and glad to hear that you are comfortable with that :). Lots of love to you all!!! AA
