This is the most random decision i've made so far. I didnt wnat to bus it all the way to singapore so i booked a flight from KL to Singapore for 20GBP so i'd only have to bus it to KL. For soem reason i thought 8-10hours was an acceptable time to get me to KL but apprently not, it turned out to be around 15hours. I left koh phi phi yday with Rob and arrived in krabi by 1030 ready for a tuk tuk then another two mini vans which got me through the border to a bus depo somewhere in the north of Malaysia by 9pm. I was slightly disorientaed because i was under the impression the mini van i was currently on was taking me all the way to KL so i had curled up on the back seats and even put my fluffy pink socks on to be then awoken and dragged off the mini van and taken to the bus depo where i was the only white person! Seriously-where are all the fellow western travellers? I the borded a very comfy bus with giant reclinable seats, unfortunately i still didn't managed to get sleep, i sitll havn't mastered the art of sleeping on a bus, boats yes but buses no.
So i was told that i would b arriving at KL at 5am which i assumed would b 6-7am because so far all my thai transport has been late, but no i was in Malaysia now and i arrived at 2am. 2AM!!! In the middle of a city i have never been, i've never even read a journal or article or anything on it, thats why it was such a random decision. and i didn't have any local currency. just THB. Straight away 2 taxi men were on my like flys, i started to get a bit defensive which i've noticed i do when in a new place because i'm always so weary. I explained thta i wanted to go to one of the places i had written down because it was cheap and that i wanted a cheap taxi. luckily enough i remembered that 1GBP was equivilant to 6MYR. The taxi driver offered to take me to an ATM then onto a hostle....then i remmebered something.... my bloody barclays card wasn't activated so i had to ring to authorise the card to be used in Malaysia. After the man on the phone sorted that he dedcided he would ask me if i wanted to sort out a credit card!!!! ok so its 2am remember, i'm in the middly of KL trying to take some cash out while the taxi man is waiting for me and he askd me if i wanted a credit card. The funniest/most annoying thing is i was trying for around 6 weeks before my trip to get a credit card with no result and now they decide to sort one outt. i hung up.
The taxi man turned ut to be a bit of a ledgend really because he told me about the different areas of KL, he took me to China Town and drove really slowly so we could work out where one of the hotels i'd found previously was and then when we got to the hotel and the guy told me there was no dorms only singles for 10gbp a night the taxi man pleaded with the ownder to let me have a dorm and suceeded. i think it helped that i was obviously distressed by the situation and a girl. so i acutally tipped the taxi driver which i never do.
When i got taken to the dorm it was like a hospital dorm, lots of little rooms with curtains for doors and just one bunk bed in each, at first he'd showed me to a room with a guy on the bottom bunk, then he walked away and came back and took me to an empty room so i had the bunk to myself. again i think he felt a bit sorry for me.I didn't get great sleep but i was just happy to be safe somewhere.
Today i got up and sorted out what i needed to do about my flight the following morning and went ond got some Melon, apple and 7/11 yoghurt. The rest of the day has been spent walking around china-town aimlessly. I did attempt to walk out of china town to find the larger parts of the city but with not much luck. I went to this eatery place for lunch where i got noodles and somethign that kind of resembled cabbage for lunch and i witnessed a lady eating rice and meat with her hands, i did refrain from staring. Theres loads of cheap wholesale shops here, its like ebay offline.
So thats abotu all i've done today. I'm a bit gutted i didnt get to spend atleast 2 days here so i could actually go and explore anther part of town or i think maybe i should have bused it to Singapore and spent soem time there. It doesnt feel like your actually getting anything out of th place when you only spend 24hours there.
At leats i've seen a little, the next 24hours are going to be in airports and then its Baliiiiii time!!!
