Quito part dos
On arrival back from the Galapagos Islands we had one full day to spend mooching around Quito before we head off to the jungle.
We had planned on the cable car (Teleferiqo) but we felt a bit rough with altitude sickness and the clouds were rolling in so we hit the tourist spots we hadn't yet seen.
This included the Plaza and Monastery of San Francisco, church of Santo Domingo and we were lucky enough (as the prez was off travelling) to have a quided tour around the presidential palace which was really interesting.
We headed back to our Hostel late afternoon to make sure we could have some dinner and be back in the safety of our room before dark! I know it sounds paranoid and over the top but if you'd heard the things we had you just wouldn't risk it. Many travellers and even locals have told us horror stories of muggings etc and Quito's reputation as a dangerous city is increasing. It has got that bad that even supermarkets and KFC have security guards on the door!
We headed off to bed early because we had a 7.30am flight to Coca (jungle entry point) the next morning.
