Transition day! Mitch and I don't have eurail passes so it was cheaper for us to book a flight to Amsterdam instead of catching the train like the other five. We ended up saving €100 and get there roughly the same time.
Monday 12th September- We arrived in Amsterdam at 7:30pm, we checked into our hostel and all had a shower before heading out. The hostel we are staying at is very lively with a bar downstairs. Our room was at the very top in the attic and the stairs were a killer for us all. After we showered we went downstairs and had a few drinks at our bar and then headed out to another bar along the water. We then walked around the red light district for a while, the girls and I were looking with curiosity and amazement of how their world works and the guys were looking with excitement. Some of the boys stayed out but Mick, the girls and I headed home to bed.
Tuesday 13th September- Today we had a long sleep in and missed the breakfast included in our hostel stay so we all got ready and went out for breakfast/lunch. We went to a pancake restaurant and the meals were huge. We then walked around and did some shopping. The girls and I went to a tattoo shop while the guys went to the red light district again through the day. Jenna and Hayley both got their noses pierced and tried to make me get mine done too but I chickened out and knew mum would kill me for putting a hole in my face. We then met back with the guys and did the Heineken tour together. The tour was interesting and they had alot of interactive things to do there so we had alot of laughs. At the end of the tour you can get a personalized Heineken bottle, I got one for Craig. We then found a Mexican restaurant for dinner and then headed home for a shower to head back out. We first went to the red light district and all went in to watch a live sex show and then we went to a few different bars and then to a club. We got home at 4am.
Wednesday 14th September- Today Jenna and I woke up early and had breakfast then went to drop some washing off at the laundry mat. We then hired bike for the day and rode to the station to get my ticket to Belgium for tomorrow and then went to the post office to send some clothes home and all the souvenirs that I had bought along the way. We then went back to the hostel to meet the others and then we spent the day in the park. Laying down and relaxing on the grass, chatting and telling stories, riding and walking around the park and giggling like crazy. We had the best day and then left to get some dinner. After dinner we went back to the hostel and had showers and spent the night in. We were all in trackies and hoodies and laid in our room talking and listening to music until we all fell asleep.
Thursday 15th September- Today I leave "The Family" :( firstly we collected our washing and took it back to the hostel then we all got our bikes and rode to the 'House of Anne Frank.' Mick, Hayley, Jenna and I all lined up to go, the guys didn't really want to go in so they went shopping instead. So this was the time I had to say goodbye to the boys (Ryan, Buck, Shane and Tim) I cried as soon as I started hugging them all and it was really sad for all of us. The rest of us did the Anne Frank tour, it was excellent and very interesting but also very sad. Next it was time to say goodbye to the other half of the family (Jenna, Hayley and Mick) I cried again and so did the girls but we promise to keep in touch when I get back to Sydney. I walked back to the hostel to get my pack and head to the train station to make my way to Belgium, along the way I stopped at the candy shop and picked lots of mixed lollies and a card for 'The Family' to thank them for everything and the fun we shared. Photo is of the red light district.
