Sunday
What a day today. Our instructor Mike has become too ill to continue teaching us. He spent the morning teaching us how to handle the boat in tight places. But before we docked for lunch, he was telling us that he was feeling too bad to continue. So he called the office and they had to come up with another instructor.
So along comes Olag. He is from St. Petersburg, Russia but he has lived in New York for many years and speaks excellent English as well as Russian.
So he took over the instruction and we prepared for a cruise to Santa Cruz de la Tenerife at the eastern end of the island.
In a way it's good because he has been able to keep Dimitri in check.
We have had a great sail today. The kind of easy sailing that make people love it. My task enroute was to create a detailed pilot plan to get us safely into an unfamiliar port at night. Olag said I did an excellent job. I even got to use my new Marine Operators license to call the marina for berthing instructions.
So we tied up about 10pm. Myself and Dennis stayed on board and I broke out a couple of beers and we talked about the day. Then I fixed a little dinner. The Russians took off for dinner on shore. They still have Carnival going on so it's very noisy. I will use earplugs to sleep tonight.
Tomorrow, it's off to La Palma de La Gran Canaria, about 55 miles away.
