Early in the morning, we stopped and got breakfast, and then headed to the whale sanctuary of El Vizcaino. It was crazy how many whales there were. Everywhere you looked, it was whale after whale. The first whales to arrive are usually pregnant mothers that look for the protection of the lagoons to give birth to their calves. By mid-February to mid-March the
bulk of the population has arrived in the lagoon, filling them with nursing, calving and mating Gray Whales
It was so insane to see how big these animals actually are. When the babies are born, they already weigh around 700 pounds. Some whales like to go under the boats and scare people, which is quite hilarious. One whale came literally 3 ft away from our boat. That was definitely the highlight so far on the drive to Cabo San Lucas.
