Essaouira to Dar Bouazza:
Word from home regarding our family had given us much to think about. Finally we made the decision to cut short our trip and head home to spend time with my father and to help out the family. So from here it was to be a quick dash back to the ferry to Spain, an equally quick dash back across Spain to the ferry for the UK.
The coastal road heading north showed us many changes of scenery. Rocky ground, covered in weathered limestone dissuaded any plant growth and bare desolate ground spread all the way to the cliff tops. Where cultivation was attempted, the presence of reed wind-breaks around every patch of field told us that the wind we were experiencing was not unusual but the norm. Then commercial farms took over with extraordinary farms at the bases of the limestone cliffs stretching out to the sea itself.
At a little resort town of Oualidia, we nearly knocked a man off his small motorbike, then discovered he had been chasing us to try and sell us some fresh - and very much alive - spiny lobsters from the box on the back of the bike. We bought three and had them for dinner! Simply superb.
We got as far as a campsite at Dar Bouazza on the southern side of Casablanca. It was where we would have stayed anyway, had we been going in to explore the city. But it's is not to be this time - maybe one day we'll make it here again.
