Well, we got to Alice Springs. Man it was hot! Thankfully there was a pool at our hostel and air conditioning in the room, otherwise I would have passed out. Because it was so hot and also cos of the flies, we didn't do much in Alice Springs. We did have a little walk around but we spent most of the time for the 2 days we were there in the pool!
We went off on our Rock Tour on Monday morning, had to get up at 5! It was amazing! I loved it all. First day involved a lot of driving. Half way we stopped at King's Canyon to do a walk. Of course we picked the short walk! It was over 40 degrees so you can understand why. The people doing the long walk were mad! But cos they were doing the long walk, when we finished ours, we had to wait around in the heat for them to come back. It was tough I can tell you. The guide explained to us all before the walks the risks of dehydration so we were all paranoid, but we live to tell the tale! Anyway, we did get back on our way to arrive at our campsite for the night. We had to jump off the bus and collect wood for our campfire asap as it was gonna be dark soon and...we were in the middle of nowhere!
So yes, Caitriona camped out with absolutely zero facilities. No shower, no toilets, no tent, just a sleeping bag and a swag to sleep on! We got our fire going, dinner was being cooked by the guide assisted by a few of the ladies, including myself, are you proud Mam?!! It was actually mostly girls on our tour, only 2 guys out of 21 plus the guide. Anyhoos, we had our dins, was a bit late but was delicious. Then off to sleep (cos the Irish girls, all 2 of us, were the only ones that wanted beer, trust the Irish...) Bed was a swag, it's like a mattress. And sleeping bag. That's it. Our 5 million star hotel! I was para that I would be covered by ants in the morning so I sweat it out in the sleeping bag. I was way too hot, couldn't sleep. It was pretty amazing just sleeping out in the middle of no where, listening to the sounds, seeing the millions of stars in the sky (you've never seen anything like it), watching the shooting stars, wondering what might eat you in the night, using bush toilet, sleeping in the same clothes that you wore all day, being flithy. Yes, I did say amazing. When I told my mother this on the phone, she laughed at me. Thanks Mam.
I think I'm gonna run outta time here so I'm gonna have to continue another time. So for now, take care, hope you're all enjoying the photos! Hugs, Cait x.
