Budapest 9th - 11th March
Written: In Berlin while getting over food poisoning.
Budapest, what can i say? I LOVED Budapest! It was such beautiful city, every one there was so laid back and it just had a great vibe! We arrived in budapest in the afternoon and had no trouble finding our hostel, the problem was went we found it. To get off the street into the building we had to pass though a big iron door and I literally told a look into the building entrance and walked back out. It was like the start to every horror movie! There was scaffolding everywhere and the stair well was all dark and omniscient! haha its all good though because it turned out to be a really nice hostel it was just the building was getting new electrics! Our first night in budapest we decided to go out for dinner and a few drinks. We ended up at a place called Artikoska's which was a bar/restaurant/theatre. If your looking for a quite meal then this place is great earlier on in the night, but it gets nosier as the night goes on! The meals were great, nice and big and tasted fantastic, especially Courtney's gnocchi which was delicious. Courtney ordered me a large beer by accident on the second round and I don't think that I will ever get used to the size of the glasses over here! It took me soo long to finish that beer, good thing it was great beer!
Im starting to get the hang of the train systems over here as well! At first it is quite daunting, there are just to many lines going in every direction but once you get the hang of it you can get anywhere over here in the shortest amount of time ! Little perth has got the s***tiest train system ever!
Our next day in Budapest was off to a very slow start, I woke up at about 9 but courtney slept in till about 11!! Once we were going however we decided to grab a quick brunch and go get on the hop on hop off bus. This was a great idea, because the audio tour/ the bus circuit took 2 hours to finish and once that was done you could get on and off as many times as you liked and a bus came around every hour! We got to see all the major sights in budapest with out having to walk our feet off! Budapest was full of history and sights and were always reminded of the past wars that had occurred throughout the city, weather it be from the newly build monument or the older buildings that still had the bullet holes in them, its past was on display. There were 14 stops on the tour and nearly all the stops had 2-4 different sights that you could go and see, which made the tour really interesting because you not only got to see the top 10 or so sights but a lot of smaller ones as well. Behind heros square was a park and after going for a little walk we came across a small castle that looked like it had literally come out of a faire-tale book! It turned out to be the museum of agriculture which I think is a weird place to put a museum!
On the way back to he hostel we decided that we should use the kitchen to our advantage and cook a meal, this proved harder than we thought it would be! There are little supermarkets all over the city and we had no trouble finding one. The problem was find enough ingredients to make something! There was no fresh meat and very few veggies so that knocked out just about every meal that I know how to cook! In the end I just grabbed a pack of noodles and a packet of soup, this turned out to be discussing so I just ate bread for dinner! After dinner it was decided that since we were heading to prague the next day we had better book some where to stay! Well it was about 1:00 when I got to bed, apparently prague gets fully booked out on the weekends! So my last night in Budapest was spent in a very quite manner! :(
Unfortunately the next day we left budapest! :( our train didn't leave till 1 so we had a bit of time to kill after our check out. So we headed of for a walk and ended up at St Stephen's Basilica which was amazing! I was blown away, I walked in and this church was so beautifully decorated! Every inch of the church had so much though go into it, you just don't see buildings like that in australia! whoa! So this was a fantastic end to a fantastic city!!i I was defiantly not ready to go, but Courtney was board of the city and was excited for prague so we just stuck to the plan. I will defiantly be going back to this city though, I really enjoyed the short time that I was there and there was still so much that I wanted to do and see.
