Early start this morning! I packed my day bag and headed across the road to a nice little hotel that did an amazing looking English Breakfast. You didn't come across that option many places in Thailand so I made the most of it. After mym tummy was pleasantly full, I walked 10 minutes to Sairee Cottage Diving School. First I had an introduction session to Scub diving with my instructor Gregg. I was really lucky as I was the only person who had signed up for the introductory dive so I had a one on one tutorial. We started the day by discussing the principles of diving, followed by an hour in the pool learning dive skills such as taking out and putting in the regulator, recovering the regulator, swimming horizontally and getting water out of the mask successfully which was actually quite hard when your under water. Gregg told me I was a quick learner with no struggles and that he was satisfied I was ready to dive, so we broke for lunch early. I met up with Liv and Tommy for a late brunch at a cafe called the New Heaven Cafe. It was really nice there, felt like we were in a Western cafe...very posh for Thailand. I couldn't belive it as they made Jacket Potatoes and Tuna! I was all over it! That's one thing I've really missed that I never expected to, potato! I don't realise how much I eat it at home, not so much everyday, I just like having the option and it's rarely on the menu in Thailand...just soggy limp chips, if you can call them that!
After brunch, I headed back to the diving school to meet Gregg again and we headed out to the diving boat via a long boat. I got all kitted up and Gregg demonstrated how to get into the water without smacking the oxygen tank on the way in, and not sinking staright away. The oxygen tank weighed about 15kg on top of the suit and weights so it was quite hard to manuvre myself around without bashing into things. I jumped in successfully and away we went! It was such a bizarre feeling breathing underwater. I regulator was really loud, I sounded like Darth Vader. I was very aware at first that the regulator was there, it felt quite unnatural. I initially struggled with equalising the pressure in my ears at around 3 metres, it really hurt. Then I started to get water in my goggles so I tried to blow the water out like I had been shown and been successful at several times but with everything else going on and it was fairly nerve racking being actually in the sea with lots of boats, I couldn't clear my goggles. In fact, more water floaded in and I couldn't see a thing! At that point I started to panick! I couldn't see Gregg anymore and my breathing rate increased to the point I felt like I couldn't breathe and all I wanted to do was swim to the top and take all my equipment off so I could breathe properly. Luckily, Gregg could see the situation arising and put his hand on my shoulder. He started making breathing in and out motions with his other hand which I could just about make out. I consciously slowed my breathing and calmed down. Then I was able to clear my goggles properly. I felt reallt pleased he hadn't left me race to the top and that I managed to sort myslef out all whilst 3-4 metres under water. Eventually we made it down to 10 metres which was awesome! I looked up and the sea surface felt like miles away! It was incredible down by the sea bed. Lots of different coloured fish and coral, and it was so quite and peaceful, all I could hear was my own breathing which I had zoned out to by this point. I saw lots of Christmas Tree worms in different colours, Buttefly fish and Parrot fish. We slowly made our way back to shore all underwater, such an amazing couple of hours! When I was finished, we headed back to the school and I got a certificate! I was 100% going to do that again at some point, just amazing!
I knew Liv and Tommy were hoping to try Paddle boarding along the beach in the afternoon so I went in search for them both, and it wasn't long before I found them. I also grabbed a paddle board and had a go although I was absolutely rubbish, I couldn't control the direction of the board or where I was paddling, and I even struggled to balance...so ladylike! It wasn't even like it was chopping, the water was completely flat! The next thing I know, some Swedish guy has swam out to me to give me a hand...was it really that obvious I was having a mare?! He jumped onto my board and I gave him the paddle. He paddled me around for a bit which was ideal! I got to sit down and stare at his muscley back while he did all the hard work! After paddle boarding, we all messed around on the blow up platform in the sea, diving off and playing silly b*****s. It was such a beautiful aftrenoon too!
Liv was absolutely outraged that I hadn't been for a proper Thai Massage in all the time I'd been in Thailand, which was pretty bad really so we waled along the beach front and found a nice place to get one. The massage was unbelieveable as could be expected really. So relaxing and better than any massage I'd ever had in England. I went back to the hostel for a shower, and met Tommy, Nico and Rachel for dinner at an all you can eat pizza place. We must have had 5 or 6 large pizzas between us...so good! We then headed to some of the bars along the front, I was nackered but as it was my last night out in Thailand, I wanted it to be a good one. Liv rejoined us and we went from bar to bar. Then we decided to go to a Ladyboy show which was hilarious and much better than the one on Ko Samui. I actually couldn't get over that some of the ladyboys weren't females! The final stop on my last night out travelling was in a bar called Fishbowl, it was crazy! We danced around for a few hours and then I decided to head back to the hostel as I had a boat back to Ko samui followed by a flight to Bangkok the following day. On my walk back, I reflected on some of my amazing experiences I'd had. I couldn't believe it was all coming to an end!
