I had an absolutely terrible night sleep due to the crappy loud, broken air con in the room! Hey ho, who needs sleep anyway! We got ready and headed out to one of the larger Shopping Malls, Central World. The taxi took ages due to the huge amounts of traffic again, so he told us to get out and take the sky trail. We had no idea where we were going but thought we'd give it a go...beats sat in a taxi. It became clear to us since starting our travels in Asia that metered taxis are so much cheaper than agreeing a price. We stopped off at the first Mall we came to and had breakfast, another Starbucks. It sounds terrible but we just love Starbucks, and its different food in every country so we let ourselves off. However, after walking on a bit further, we found the most adorable little cafes, we were devastated and vowed that we would never let ourselves have another Starbucks unless there was no ther option!
We eventually found Central World Mall, it was very similar to the one I had been into in Chiang Mai, a great place to find shops from home. We all had different things we wanted to do so we split up and did our own thing until 2 pm. We grabbed some food in the Central Hall supermarket, which is where I also found New Zealand Natural ice cream shop, and I devoured a tub of white choc and raspberry ice cream. We had to catch our night train at 5 pm and depending on traffic, we were told it would take just over an hour, so we planned to leave by 3.30. We were making our way to find a Tuk Tuk when we saw a Twinnings cafe. The girls were desparate to have a cup of tea there so we stopped for a bit. we managed to get a bit carried away because before we knew it, it was gone 4 pm! We panick, paid up and quickly made our way out. We couldn't agree on the price with the Tuk Tuk drivers, and they were telling us it would take at least an hour if not more to get to the train station! We thought, due to the bad traffic, it might be quicker to walk. Sarah got the address of the station up on her maps and we started to walk before Sarah realised we were heading in the wrong direction. It was getting later and later so we just though we'd get a taxi and pay whatever... we didn't really have a choice! By that point we were in the middle of a long road and we couldn't find one! Eventually, we managed to flag down a Tuk Tuk. We remembered we had to go back to the hostel yet to pick up our bags! We told the driver to put his foot down...and my god he did! We were diving in and out of the traffic at 100 miles an hour! I actually feared for my life on numerous occassions. We were just around the corner from our hostel and we got stuk in traffic again, so Sarah jumped out and ran to the hostel to get our stuff out by the front door. We flung around the corner to th hostel, piled the bags onto top of us, and away we went again. The driver was literally driving on the otherside of the raod at times, it was crazy! Needless to say, he got us there with half an hour to spare! We couldn't believe it! We even had time to grab snacks for the journey.
Once we got on the train, we headed to find our three seats. I ended up with the short straw and had to sleep at the end of the carriage next to the door, and next to the toilets! The train was just vile! We even saw a cockroach. I had reached my limit! I couldn't bear the thought of sleeping there. I can handle basic but not dirty and smelly. The toilets stank and it was so loud next to my bed as the door to the outside of the train was open all night. In addition to all of this, the left the lights on all night and I was top bunk so had a light in my face whilst trying to get to sleep. I really didn't know how I was going to cope. I put a film on my ipad 'The Purge' and tried to distract myself. I eventaully drifted off, but bearly slept a wink all night. It was an experience I was glad to have done, but would avoid at all costs in doing again!
