Wow, two days ago we visited Iguazu falls and what a memorable experience! I can see why this place attracts millions of visitors each year. We spent nearly a whole day here and were left with a feeling of complete happiness. On this day I saw one of the most amazing, beautiful and tranquil places on earth that I have ever seen before. It was almost surreal in someways as well. I have always thought that Erskine Falls in Lorne, Victoria is stunning and it still is, but Iguaza is more than just waterfalls. The feeling of this place is incredibly relaxing to be right in the middle of something completely natural that has so much energy and life. It made me happy to see that there is still existence of such incredible natural beauty in this world despite the harm this planet has suffered.
To make it possible to see the falls, we caught a bus there from the middle of town in Puerto Iguazu, and then we paid our 100 pesos entry fee. We got there early in the morning to beat the crowds, but still there were already hundreds of people there. We had been lucky to get information from a friendly local at a tourist information centre in town the day before, so we had a few tips on how to make the most of the day. Once entering the park we caught the light rail for the short journey to the top of the falls. We then walked for about 20 minutes through the forest crossing waterways and passing bridges. So much water and so many trees and bird life. It was already getting hot and the water looked very tempting to jump into.
Then in the distance we saw a huge spray of water through the mountains. We then heard the roar of gallons of water gushing and then we saw them, the very top of Iguazu falls! Wow this was incredible. Despite the mass of people already on the platform soaking up the splashes of water blowing over them, we managed to squeeze our way through and look over the edge. Never before have I seen so much water! You could see, hear, feel and taste the masses of water flowing over the edge. Everyone was getting soaked and we loved it! Scenery like this cannot be captured on film or camera, but you can get an idea of what it is like to be here. This moment I had to really treasure because I will probably only visit this place once since it is so far from home, a moment I will never forget.
Throughout the rest of the day we made our way through the forest to see the other falls, take part in a jungle tour and see the animals. This place is really a paradise! The jungle tour took us on a ride on top of a jeep with a tour guide explaining the life of the animals and plants in the forest. We came close to spiders and could have easily driven straight through a web that would have gone through our face! Luckily this didn't happen. At the end of the ride we arrive at the waters edge where we go out on a speed boat. Where are we going?... we are gong to ride through the bottom of the waterfalls! I knew we were going to ride near them, but not under them! This 20 minute journey on the boat was one of the most fun and exhilarating 20 minutes ever. The scenery itself was enough, but to see the falls from the lake and the mountains and bird life flying amongst them was beautiful. We got swept under two of the falls and were completely soaked! It was the most refreshing feeling to be completely soaked by this water. Some of this moment has been captured on video if want to see it.
There were many other amazing moments throughout the day but I wont describe them all. Some of my photos have captured these moments and are scenes that I would have once though I would never visit. This place really makes you realise how amazing nature is. I hope that places like this will stay as they are and not be destroyed. I think we should visualise more about how beautiful life on earth can really be if we nurture it the way it should be. Perhaps rather than making movies about destruction of the future, they should make a movie through a subliminal message showing how calm, clean and naturally beautiful life on earth can be, if we love it and nurture it the way it has shown me on the day I visited Iguazu.
