Two weeks and two days into the trip and we have now arrived in Puerto Iguazu, Argentina. We have left the lively city of Beunos Aires behind and now say hello to the country and waterfalls! Lots of waterfalls! Buenos Aires was a great experience and there was a lot to take in. This fist phase of the trip still felt somewhat surreal in a way. After so much hard work to make all this trip possible, it was good to have a few days where we had no schedule to just wander around and take it all in. Finding our way around a big new city like BA though it not necessarily relaxing, but we got to see a lot of the city and navigated our way through one suburb to another. All the buildings here are so unique and each suburb feels like a different place.
Some memorable experiences would be visiting the San Telmo markets held every Sunday in San Telmo. The main street in San Telmo sets up markets stalls all the way down Defensa road running for nearly 3km. The street comes to life with locals selling their handcrafted goods, food, clothing and so on. There is drumming and dancing and so much to see you could easily spend the day here. It was most exciting to see the drumming and bands play in the streets. San Telmo was probably one of our favorite areas of BA. There is also an outdoor plaza where you can watch Tango and take it all in. We spent our last five nights in this area of town and came across a decent hostel that was very relaxing and well priced. We met people here from various corners of the globe including two French girls who had also just arrived in BA and were travelling around the world like us.
During my stay here, I wont forget the amazing buildings some of which are hundreds of years old, the amazing steaks, the super sweet breakfast and the diversity of the city. Sometimes we didn't get what we ordered because of language difficulties, but still we got fed. Sometimes we walked so far in the heat we wore ourselves out and blistered our feet, but what we saw was well worth it. I learnt that pick pocketers are much more smarter than I thought they were, but someone would have been happy when they opened my wallet. Lucky I only had one card in there and was able to cancel it and it is all fine now. I now know how easily it can happen, so will be extra careful from now on. We have learnt that we need to pick up more of the language to get more out of our time here in South America, yet still I think we are doing pretty well considering. Through my photos I can comment more on what I loved and what i learnt from this city. It is a city that I could come back to again and experience a whole lot more, but we have to keep on moving.
The next phase of the trip will test us even more as we leave our first destination and travel further up north. We caught a bus to Puerto Iguazu which took 16hrs! Surprisingly this was more comfortable than our 13hr flight from Australia to BA! We travelled over night so we were able to sleep and they gave us plenty of food and drinks. So we arrived here today and tomorrow we visit the falls! We stay here for two nights and will spend the whole day exporing the falls tomorrow. Im so excited for this! Our first real taste of adventure in the outdoors... will keep you posted !
