hey everyone (not sure where this picture is from as i am having trouble uploading my own!)
I am now in Cairns! Quite a lot to tell you all...
Ok so left adelaide very early on Weds 6th june headed for Coober Pedy where we would stay the night before carrying on to Alice Springs the next day. We soon left the city and suberbs behind us. Before i knew it we were in the 'outback'! Literally nothing surrounds us except mountain ranges and shrubs. its very wierd! Took us 11 driving hours to get to Coober Pedy!! This is the strangest place i have ever been to i swear its so wierd! Everyone lives underground as it gets so hot in the summer.. we visited a mine and a museum telling us the history of the opal and the town, although it was all very interesting i just found myself wanting to get going and get to Alice!
We eventually got to Alice at about 7pm ish on the thursday evening. The drive on the thurs was once again very surreal- red dirt soil as fas as my eye can see although its much greener than i expected. Dead cows turned on their backs on the side of the road, died from starvation so their bodies are all blown up from the gas. road kill... and dead legs and sore bums!!!
Anyway so we pretty much crash out thurs night berofe getting pickedc up at 615am on friday monring for out 'Rock Tour'. This was a 3 day 2 night tour around Uluru (Ayers Rock), Kata Tjuta and Kings Canyon. It was an amazing experience.
Our first stop on the road was at this little camel farm- most important info here was had the best bacon buttie i have ever had!!! Turning onto the Lassiter Highway we then stopped to collect fire wood for the eveinng camp fire! The day already starting to heat up, clear blue skies! yey!
After picking up extra people at the Ayers Rock airport we headed to Uluru! It suddenly looms in frotn of you and its staggering. Its size, its colour in the sun, the fact that there is nothing around it and all of a sudden there it is- Ayers Rock. Pretty spectacular. Got to the base and our tour guide Leith, wierd dude!, told us a few aboriginal stories of the Mala people. Very interesting, even if they do seem a little 'far fetched'. They are far too long to explain and talk about here!! But very interesting none the least. The walk around the base took about an hour and a half (9 kms) amazing how much the colours of the rock and how diverse the contours are. You so often see the postcard shot of Uluru and none close up it was fascinating.
After Uluru we drove to the sunset look out and had dinner watching the sun set over Ayers Rock. This was amazing- a slow process watching the colours change from red in daylight to a sort of darker more vivid red and orange aas the sun went down. the sky sort of went purple! Bit eerie at night time!!!Made our way back to camp (in the middle of nowhere!) made our fire which was lovely as it gets so cold at night!! Honest! Slept out under the stars in our swags- the stars were amazing, millions of them and the moon was incredibly bright. Something i will never forget.
Up the next morning bright and early to catch the sun rise- this was so impressive. Found it much more amazing than the sunset. It suddenly pinged orange- literally. I cant really say anymore than that so once i have at last put photos on you'll have to see for yourself.
Tne next day we headed to Kata Tjuta (pronounced Kata Choota!) or The Olgas. Here we did a 7 km hike through the rocks.. awesome. i find it so hard to explain how amazing and beautiful the views were in words, especially when i cant upload my photos yet!! ggrrr! saw a wild camel that was pretty cool! Climbed the steepest steps i have ever climbed and at the end felt pretty un fit!!! After Kata Tjuta we headed back on the road for thr 300 kms drive to our next camp site at Kings Creek Station. This place stunk of cow poo!! nice. Slept out in swags again that night- stars again were breathtaking.
Kings Canyon the next day (the final day) was an awesome walk, about 6 kms. Too many beautiful views and sights and not enough time to explain them all! The amphitheatre (the shape of the canyon) was an impressive view- again apart from the Canyon itself there is nothing on the horizon. Its hard to comprehend how big the 'outback' is so let alone try and get it over to you guys. Vistited the 'Gargen Of Eden', a gorgeous lush rainforest type place with a deep pool of cold water! too cold to swim! The photos look like something i never thought i could take myself but only see in books!!!
The Rock Tour was an amazing experience, met some strange people and some great people and seen sights i will never forget!
Flew to Cairns monday afternoon and here i am! Steve suprised me and turned up- so so good to see him its grreeat!! Tomorrow we hire a car and head up tO Daintree rainforest before me and ben collect our camper van and head off on the next leg on thursday!
It's all go!
Hope all is well at home, sorry my photos wont upload will keep trying!!
Love Bry xxxx
