Hi everyone!!
So i am now in Adelaide, South Australia. Got here yesterday afternoon about 3pm and checked into our hostel..
So The Great Ocean Road- it was incredible. We left melbourne after picking up the hire car (got upgraded to an automatic toyota 5 door thing so that was fab for all the bends in the ocean road!) so left about 10.30 am after loading all our belongings (we had sooo much rubbish!) into the car and headed out the city we'd waited SO long to leave! YEY! The time had finally come!
The city soon was behi8nd us, it was a glorious day- blue skies and it was wonderful feeling getting out on the open road! First stop was at a little place outside the city called Seabrook (Ben's surname) and he was very excited- photos taken we were back on our way. First stop was at Torquay where the Ocean Road officially starts.
The drive was brillliant, such fun round all the bends and tight corners, again thankfull for the automatic car! The scenery and views were breathtaking- were so lucky that we had a clear day with blue skies as the rain set in each night and camping was cosy but a little cold and wet!
First stop was at Skenes CReek, a little campsite right on the beach - beautiful. The sea wa so fierce but iloved the sound of the waves through the night! Had fish n chips that night in Apollo Bay.
Next day we drove along more bends and corners and beautiful scenery to the 12 Apostles, it was an amazing view ands i feel that my descriptions and photos wont do it justice. I never imagined the rocks would be as large as they were. The sea was so rough and the waves were massive- it was an awesome sight! Couldnt believe i was actually there at the 12 Apostles after seeing countless photos of them here in oz! We kept stopping off at little view points after this along the road, see my photos.
Second night was in a place called Port Fairy- quaint little place with not a lot there! Although came up trumps with the campsite as there was an indoor camp kitchen so could have a bbq!! we threw an old shrimp on the barbie. haha
Poured down with rain this night and was so bad we drove a 50 metres to the shower block! how funny.
Ok so next day the official Ocean Road had finished however the views were still spectacular- more inland for a bit. Very green and hilly- lots of bloody sheep and wierd little places. Spend the third night in Robe- lovely little fishing place again with not a lot there! But the campsite was amazing- had an indoor swimming pool and the best bit- arcade games! get in. We had a ball! It absolutely poured and the whole grass camping area practically flooded so ended up moving into a cabin and paying a bit extra.. left the tent up over night and spent a lovely warm night in a proper bed (bens hips were hurting from camping bless him!!! haha) then it had hardly rained all night and the tent was practically dry!!! Good times.
Oh also went out for dinner and it was scrumptious (see my photo of my dinner!) Enough said otherwise ill go on for ages about how lush my food was!
Then carried onto Adelaide the final day and arrived here yesterday afternoon. Seems a nice city but glad im only here for a day before moving onto better things! Nice if it was warmer- cant believe i thought oz never got cold! BRRRR!
Leaving for Alice Springs tomorrow morning at 6.30 am and stopping overnight in Coober Pedy before doing a 3 day tour around Ayers Rock and Kings Canyon then flying to Cairns next monday.
Will add more pics and blogs in Cairns!
