Day 1: The plane
Arrived at the airport about 5ish amd spent the first half hour trying to put our security mesh on our backpack! Looked around the shops for a bit and had dinner then it was time to get on our plane at 9 for a 9.30 takeoff. We were expecting a normal small plane but it turned out to be a huge posh plane. We got given blankets, socks,a pillow, a toothbrush with toothpaste and an eye mask. There were screens on the back of the chair infront and a huge choice of films that arent on DVD yet and games and music and also a plane tracker. Was pretty amazing! We also got fed every few hours which we weren't expecting either...meals and wraps and sandwhiches between meals and sweets and drinks.
We landed in Doha at 5.45am and it was 39 degrees already! The roads were really busy and the sun was up...didnt feel that early. Had a 2 hour wait so read our Thailand book. Arrived in Bangkok at 7.15pm and met our tour guide Chris then waited around to meet 2 of the other girls in our group- one from Scotland and the other from Northern Ireland. Got a taxi back to the hotel and experienced the crazy driving of Thai people...they dont really know the rules about lanes or indicating! they get cut up and drive inbetween lanes and on the wrong side of the road to overtake. Aaand to make it worse they dont wear seatbelts half the time!
Got to our room and it looked quite nice..has air conditioning and a tv and a wetroom but the door doesnt close properly and there are loads of little bug things everywhere! but they are tiny and really fast. Chris took us to look around the main streets of Bangkok where most of the tourists stay and went to eat at a restaurant and found out how cheap it is here...it cost under 3 pounds for a curry with rice and a drink. We had a meal today for only 1pound and bottles of water are only 20pmax for 2 litres.
Day 2:Bangkok
We walked into Khao San Road and on the way a man started giving us tips for travelling and about thailand and offered to take us around 7 different places for only 20baht by tuktuk which is equivalent of 40p. So we went in a 'VIP' tuktuk from 1.30-7.30 and went to visit temples and statues and a crematorium and also looked around a jewellery factory and suit shops. Again a local man stopped to explain about one of the statues and about their beliefs and religion and asked what my freckles were called and why i had them...he seemed very confused haha. We booked our last week in Chiang Mai and the travel to get there...a plane and train up to Bangkok then Chiang Mai, and a 3 day trekking package learning to cook on the way and learning their way of life. Apparently it's less touristy up North and more touristy down south in the islands.
We got back from our day trip aftter taking lots of photos and saw the 2 girls on the way back. We went for dinner then to see a cabaret which contained many lady boys...it was a bit odd to say the least. Got a taxi back and sat outside a bar for a bit and shared a bucket between us. We met quite a few people and then a big group of us went to a club called lava. Got in at 6am after going for a pancake and icecream.
Day 3: Tiger Temple
We were very tired from the night before and had to be down in reception for 10.30 to get a bus to tiger temple. It was a 3hour bus journey there and 3 hours back but we slept for most of it as we were quite travel sick...forgot to take our tablets and didnt know the journey was so long. BUT it was good when we got there as we had a photo with a tiger and were allowed to stroke it! it was a middleish size...not a baby but not an adult. We saw the workers in the tiger enclosure playing with them in the water where they were jumping up to grab things on sticks and play fighting. We got back and showered and ready and then met everyone else from the group as they arrived earlier that day. There are 11 in the group including Chris so is a good size and everyone seems really nice and easy to talk to...this week is going to be good! Ate dinner at the hotel restaurant and went to a bar with a live band. The singers here are really good and sound like theyre English when they sing. Went back and went to sleep.
Day 4 (first day of Thaintro): River cruise and Temples
We all met at 11 for breakfast and a safety talk then made our way to the river to get a long boat. We were told that 14,000 tonnes of waste and sewage is pumped into the river every day...and it kept spraying us in the face! Wasn't the most pleasant experience but was pretty funny. Went down the side canals where some locals live and their houses looked as if they were about to collapse into the water any minute. We fed the fish which were HUGE (apparently its luky) and saw a massive lizzard on a rock. We went to a temple called Wat arun which used to be the tallest building in Bangkok and climbed up its massive steep steps. Then we went over the river to another temple with a really long name. It had a statue of the reclining Buddha which was 15m tall and 46m long...huge. We had a guided tour from a man and found out alot about the different statues and religion and beliefs of Thai people. Grabbed some lunch at 4 and went back to the hotel room to do a bit of hand washing. Today is a national holiday so all bars are closed tonight so we are going to the roof of the hotel to chill and play some games.
Unfortunately the computer doesnt see any photos on the camera so will try and upload them another time :(
Day 5: Kings Palace
Went to visit the palace today and bought some palace pants with elephants on them...wanted some bright ones but they didnt really have any :( Was soooo hot this day it was like an outside sauna! We all looked very attractive haha. looked at the kings jewellery and swords and stuff and had loads of pictures wih the guards...we managed to make a guard laugh and smile! got a tuktuk back to the main road and then went shopping for a UV top.
We then went to the station and got a KFC haha but it isnt the same as england...and they sell rice dishes and fish burgers?! The overnight train was alright...the seats turned into bunk beds and then had curtains but the toilets were disgusting! getting alot of practise squatting for the toilet!
