Thursday saw my last day at the school. I can't say I'm overly sad at the thought of not having to wake up at 7am again to teach classrooms 40 strong of loud, excitable children. But it was a great experience, the kids actually turned out to be very sweet, and they were all very sad that I was leaving so soon. My favourite were 4F who for some reason in the last two days only had about 10 kids, which was beautiful. Then 5A whom on my last day were given a study leave day but a group of 12 chose to come in for my last day. Adorable.
Friday marked our last day at the orphanage, it was the girls turn and we decided not to do lessons and instead spent time writing messages for them and playing. For some reason, some of the boys weren't allowed to play outside, and so I didn't get to say goodbye to a couple of my favourites but I spent my last 15 minutes playing football with the boys who have very originally nicknamed me 'football'.
So this weekend is completely up to our own devices. Which feels strange, since getting here it seems every minutes of the day has been planned, even last weekend with the trip up to kandy. Since last weekend we've had 5 girls leave and so now with just 6 of us, the house feels very quiet. But the queue for the shower is shorter and for that I'm grateful.
Today we took a Tuk Tuk down to Hikkaduwa where we wandered up looking in all the shops before settling into our favourite place for some lunch. The guys at Funky de Bar are basically friends now. I went for the first time last Thursday and since then we've been four times. Both when it's completely dead and completely packed, now they recognise me and stop to say hi or have a dance throughout the night, and I've even managed to get a few free drinks from it ;). I was actually just a little bit sad saying goodbye to all of them today.
I leave Monday night, and it's starting to feel like it's definitely time to move on. I have had the best time Sri Lanka, and I'm so thankful for Ashika and Nalaka and everything they've done for us, but I'm definitely looking forward to a new place and new people come Tuesday morning.
