Very quick update.? In Queenstown which is stunningly beautiful with clear blue skies so someone is being kind to us.? Off on the Shotover this afternoon which is meant to be awesome ride and then to Dart River safari tomorrow where a lot of the Lord of the Rings was? filmed.? Will do more later. Run out of time on the cafe.
21st 9.45 pm - update.
Well the Shotover Jet was well worth doing. Queenstown speciality as they have jet boats that enable them to operate in shallow (4" deep) water. Boy what a ride as the driver heads straight for a rock and swerves the back end away at the last minute with the front end almost touching the rock, side of the canyon or tree trunk. 360 degree turns when the river widens; excellent fun.
Today we have been in Lord of the Rings film territory (Tara will be jealous) on Dart River safari jet boat and 4 x 4 excursion. The weather has been excellent for us as cloudy this morning but cleared as we drove up to Glenorchy with a long white cloud between the lake and the tops of the mountains - magical. The ride up on the jet boat (65kph up river and 85kph downriver) was terrific as the scenery was stunning - again. Back down on the 4 x 4 with a walk in forest.
Tomorrow we are off to Doubtful Sound (Fjord in NZ) for an overnighter on a boat - if the weather holds for us it will be another brilliant 24 hours. We can't believe it will but even if its misty or wet it'll be a wonderful trip. The whole area here is stunningly beautiful and if you haven't been then book it now - we'll come back anytime.
Last night we ate at Winnies which was buzzing but sadly Jane ate something that gave her a severe headache this morning (not the wine or beer at all). We found a great little coffee place that sells the best coffee and does the best sandwiches in Queenstown (Coffee Bean) and had breakfast at the Loaded Hog which is by the main jetty. They have an America's Cup yacht here and it left full of expectant punters but we last saw it motoring around as there was no wind at all. Very sad for them as we had a great time on one in Auckland harbour.
Watch this space fro further news!!
