Arrived in Makassar after a SWEATY 51 hours - hot, sticky, smelly and dirty, but both pretty exhilarated! Can't even begin to describe the experience, so many people for so little space, and toilets which would make you gag! I honestly can't do it justice with just words, you'll have to wait for pictures. It's like you're cattle - rows and rows of thin beds (normally 12 sharing 5 bed spaces), rubbish everywhere, people throwing up, food likeyou wouldn't imagine someone would actually be capable of making...the smells... and more people than I have ever seem queuing to get on the boat in Flores.
But now we're here! Found a hostel and taken out for a meal by a sweet 'aunt and uncle' couple we met on the boat- they took us to this crazy mall where there was boxing, and just crowds of people swarming round and watching.
We've got a night and a day here - beer is now vaguely affordable again, so we'll have a couple tonight to celebrate making it in one piece! After tomorrow we'll head off to Tana Toraja for the funerals for a couple of days, and then make our way to the famed Togean islands...
