Douglas Brown's Travels
Day 7
We were up and on the road by 8am today. Todays ride is one of the longest of the tour.
The rain had disappeared and we were left with an overcast and cool day.
The first part of the ride was very pretty as we climbed the mountains then descended again to wander between farmland and small villages.
Morning coffee. Was at Telchalm beside a lake. The resturant and adjoining sports academy was originally established by Ferenc Puskas, Possibly Hungary's greatest ever football player.

The warming Mocca was certainly enjoyed as it warmed the body after the cool ride ascending the mountains. The fine weather and flatter roads after the mountain decent allowed me to settle into the bike and become more comfortable throwing it around.
The Americans who had found themselves at home on the well surfaced twisty mountain roads were all slowed a little by todays Australian like bumpy and truck punished roads. It was not unusual today to get bumped off line mid corner by a dip or rut in the road.
Today was mainly about riding to reach Hungary, so the only other stop we made was at Kapitany for lunch . Shortly before Tihany we stopped for petrol and parked in the garage forecourt was a small car manufactured during the communist period. It was a very block like car with a fibreglass body, nothing flash. However, they were loved by the people.
Tihany is a small village northern shore of Lake Balaton, the largest inland lake in Europe.
