Dear friends
We returned safely to the UK last Tuesday, carrying a large quantity of smelly washing and one or two items purchased from the Maasai market. Remarkably, our big day of flights (Zanzibar to Dar-es-Salaam to Kilimanjaro to Nairobi to London) went off without a hitch, and we collected our bags at Heathrow no problem - even the ones containing the washing, unfortunately...
Emma and I were back to work on Wednesday, and we have just about struggled through to Friday. We all have fantastic memories of a truly amazing and varied time in Tanzania. Just beware of any sentence that begines "When we were in Tanzania, ... " Meanwhile, we have about 1500 photos to sort through! I'll put some of them on here and/or facebook in due course: you have been warned...
Thank you to everyone who made a donation to take to the orphanage. Life got a bit complicated at times, as we tried to keep track of about £600, which is about 1.5 million Tanzanian shillings! We have spent the money as follows:
* Completion of painting the orphanage (I'll post some "before" and "after" photos)
* Renovation of the floor in the main living area for the children. This was very dusty, and will be much better for the children and easier to keep clean
* A donation to a school in Arusha where we stayed for a couple of nights
* A donation to the orphanage for food and normal running costs
My mum has been in hospital while we were away and so we stopped off in Moreton-in-Marsh on the way home. My dad writes: "We have known for a long time that Ann's illness is terminal, and it appears that her life on earth is approaching its end. But she knows, and we know, that what lies ahead is glory, and the close presence of the Lord she has served for so many years." We were so relieved to get home in time to see Ann, and I am now back in Moreton with mum, dad and Catherine.
Thank you for your support and messages on this blog - much appreciated while we were away!
With love from us all
Mark, Emma, Matt, Jonny and Ben
