Today was another packed day. I dont know how much longer I will be able to keep going at this pace, but I feel like if I slow down I will miss something. This morning we went to the knock off market below the science and tech center. Basically its an underground mall that has everything you would want to buy. Coach bags, ferrigammo sunglasses, tiffany's braclets, abercrombie shirts, whatever. Barganing there is a blast. If they ask 250, you counter with something ridiculous like 50 and you can usually get it for about 100 rmb. Lots of fun. We strolled around there for a few hours before Tori and her friend Hudson had to leave for a school bbq and I headed home. When I got there my uncle and i decided to head to the electronics market to pick up a few things and so off we went again. Its not technically downtown, but close enough. Lots of super tall buildings (including one of the tallest in asia which is being finished now) and expensive shops. The electronics market is massive, like pretty much every market here. 4 floor, I would guess the store covers about 1/2 a city block and they have every piece of electronic equipment you could want. Kevin is never allowed to visit, I dont think I would ever see him again. Exploring that area was pretty interesting, I have a few pics, which I'll put up when I can, of a really old, very chinese looking apartment building with a brand new sky scraper in the back ground. The old and new stuff here just stacks on top on one another.
We got back from that market and hit the carefore store, which is the wal mart knock off for some groceries. The amount of people they have working in each section is unreal. In the liquor section alone, which is two isles about 1/2 the length of your average safeway isle there was about 25. No one really does anything but stand there and move out of the way when you are looking for something, but that is really it. I could spend a day walking through that store alone. They have the weirdest collection of stuff and the produce and meat isle are always intersting. I had some kind of red jelly stuff that I think was made out of some kind of fruit, but it was in between the meat isle and the produce section, so really it is anyones guess. I also picked up some duck and a few types of dim sum. One day this week I'm going back for noodles which is done kind of mongoli grill style where you pick out your vegis and meat (turtles are for sale there as food, so I'm sure you could have them in there if you wanted) and they fry it up right there. It costs I think 15 yuan or something so like 2 bucks. Looked darn tasty though. And then I can have shanghai noodles in shanghai.
The plan was to go to the Bund tonight, but we are all a little tired and so we watched a movie and ordered in instead. I'm sad to say the simpsons movie is in russian so it was out.
