Today was filled with churches and walking and monuments and ... churches.
We started with the magnificent Santa Maria Maggiore which has beautiful mosaics.
We took the red Metro to Piazza del popolo then walked along the edge of the Villa Borghese gardens to the top of the Spanish Steps. At the top is a lovely French Church Trinita Dei Monti. Inside a small group of nuns and priests were singing a mass, creating a beautiful atmosphere.
Down the Spanish Steps we entered the expensive shops area. You name it, it was there. Nothing tempting though. A cone of hot chestnuts were munched on until we found a little restaurant for lunch. Asking for a table in Italian definitely gets better service. Having a young blonde daughter almost guarantees it.
Forget the coffee - the hot chocolate is out of this world.
Tha afternoon was spent visiting the Trevi Fountain - truly spectacular, several beautiful churches and the Pantheon.
The feet are aching, and the tiredness kicking in. Combination of end-of-school-year and jetlag I assume.
