Hey everyone! Take Two! Okay so I just typed out my whole blog and then went to submit it and it didn't go through and I lost it all! L NO! hahahahah ooook so here is take to!
I made it to Ecuador safe and sound after a long travel! I left the states on Friday and went to Lima, Peru where I stayed the night on Friday and then left Saturday morning for Quito, Ecuador. Once I landed in Quito I was greeted by a woman named Canastanza who was the granddaughter of the women I would be staying with. She was very easy to find and holding a sign with my name on it! Once I found her she drove me around the city and showed me where I would be taking my language classes where the different bus routes were and then she took me to her grandmother's house. I will be staying with a single older woman her name is Francia. She is a cute little grandma! J There is also another girl who will be living with me, her name is Nikki and she just graduated with her Master's in Public Health. She is very nice! She is here with CFHI for the 4 week program. Once both of us settled into our rooms we just hungout and talked with Francia. My Spanish wasn't as by as I thought it was going to be, I was able to communicate with Francia quite easily and after dinner she was telling me about her daughters and granddaughters.
Today was quite an eventful day. I woke up this morning and went to take a shower. The water was freezing and therefore my shower only lasted about 4 minutes! I couldn't figure out how to get the hot water to work! LOL but once I was out Francia then explained to us that we have to wait for it to warm up because the shower head is what heats the water. Well now I know! Francia made us breakfast and had croissants with ham, cheese, and tomatoes, and a bowl of fruit! At 9:00 this morning we had orientation for our program. We only had about a 10 minute walk and it wasn't too bad. Once we got there we took a written and oral placement Spanish test, and then had program orientation in the morning. After we went to a pizza parlor for lunch and in the afternoon the Medical Director came to speak to us a little bit about our clinical rotations. We all got our individual rotations for the next four weeks. This week I will be working with the medical director, next week in the emergency room of a hospital, then in a clinic, and the last week in the maternity part of a hospital. This is where we have to wear our scrubs to see labors! Exciting! We don't start our medical rotations until Wednesday this week. We have orientation again tomorrow, and get to see the city, and then Tuesday we have Spanish classes all day. Wednesday I finally will start clinicals.
We were done at about 4 this afternoon. We found a place to get internet so now I will be able to use my computer more and keep in touch! Yay!
All of the kids in the program are sooo nice and it is going to be a blast! There are two other kids who are in my 10 week program, Julie and Peter. We spend 4 weeks in Quito then go to Chone for 3 weeks, and then back to Quito for 3 weeks! The other 8 kids are here for 4 weeks with CFHI! We are all already trying to decide where to go for our weekend travels so many places to see and do! It will be exciting I will keep you updated.
Look forward to more!
Love, Brittany
