Marengo, Il to Monticello, MN - 392 Miles
94o & Sunny
Day 57
We left the Chicago area and our friends, looking forward to our trek to Minnesota and beyond. Our mirror problems seem to be behind us, we hope. They seem to be functioning correctly for now.We still don't have cab air, but manageable with the generator. We're looking forward to cooler climes.
Lunch brought our first lesson of the day.Lesson 1:You don't maneuver your RV into a position that you have back up from.Backing up means you have to unhook your towed vehicle and re‑hook it.They do not back up attached to the RV.We stopped at a huge truck stop and of course Hugh and I could not agree on where to park.Lesson 2:I have learned not to try to give directions to Hugh while he has some other destination in mind.We wasted an hour unhooking our car (aka "toad") and re-hooking it up.
We traveled thru the Dells area of Wisconsin. The lakes were crystal clear and blue. The stone monoliths were striking. They would unexpectedly rise up out of the landscape.
The Mississippi River at the crossing from Wisconsin to Minnesota was so different than the Mississippi down river. It looks cleaner, smaller, and faster.
Minnesota is very flat! The farms are HUGE!The landscape at this time of the year reaps of plenty. The fields are full and really gorgeous.
We arrived at Rivers Edge RV Park in the evening. Not dark yet we hurriedly set up camp and went to see the Mississippi here in Monticello, MN.The RV Park was bordered on two sides by the river. The river here was smaller and our RV Park was almost at the level of the river. You could see the current in the river and it was running fast.
We settled in for the night, it was beautiful!
