Nha Trang to Da Nang -Feb 14th - 19thWell, not much to report here sadly, it was all a bit of a let down. Part of the comedy and part of the let down is that everyone is out to get you. no matter what you say to them they say "ok"."can you take us to bus station ?""ok ok ok"100 yds later the taxi stops and the driver looks at you confused but has already set the meter running and wants paying."do you know this address?" (point to mapto make sure this time)"ok ok ok"we end up at his friends hotel where he earns a commission. Problem was we did not know until we walked til the end of the street, and then did not have a detailed enough map to know where we were.Try to ask a local you think...... forget it. either they do not speak english or will call you their mate on a taxi who will only tell you for money.Every 3 seconds you will get heckled by a heckler who wont give up even after 20 "No No No"We had booked a taxi in advance to take us to the airport, but you won't know til you get there if it is another taxi trying it on.No local lingo and it really is a lottery.Loads of beggars that seem to do the rounds every 10 minutes and demand an explanation if you say no, and the same with the hawkers selling travel guides. You feel a bit bad as most of them are scruffy kids, but you don't know who the money is going to.in the south the locals throw everything on the floor under the table when they are eating, such as lobster shells, napkins, beer cans, in fact anything they do not eat, it is quite disgusting.no wonder there are so many shoe shiners around. But fair play, it's their jungle and we invited ourselves, and it is a very poor country and we are their mealticket, so smiling and laughing as you tell them to get lost was the best option i found.Nha Trang was really nice, very caribbean with a lovely beach. we rented some bikes and had a good blast round, with the usual "we are going to get murdered" moment thrown in when we ended up down a pitch black dead end road and a car pulled up alongside us and slowed down, and then people ran in to the road to try to stop us to go in to their restaurant. It was not really beach weather and was noticeably cooler than Saigon, so we decided to head up to Da Nang.Seeing as we could get a flight for 20 quid we did not bother with the coffin bus.Da Nang had figured heavily in our itinerary as jonnie had heard of itfrom all the war films of the Vietnam war as it was where the troopswent for R&R.Sadly it is now really more of a port. It has a massive beach called China beach, but it is arough seaand is more for surfers. Also again it was not beach weather so it spoiled it a bit. Big lack of bars and a night scene, and every hotel we went to was damp.So it was a real let down and also the worst place for the "ok ok" treatment and taxis heading off in the opposite direction until you start shouting at them as they think you don't know the way.Ha ha no different to the UK i suppose but at least they are ten times cheaper. So sadly Da Nang was short lived as well so another plane up to Hanoi.
