Singapore
June 18/19
So due to the flight delay, and having to go through a crazy combination of buses and border checkpoints, i arrive at my hostel at nearly midnight. But it is not all bad, as my bunk is opposite the showers, and i got to see all the girls coming and going.
The next day i caught the bus that does a loop of the town, and as soon as i got on it started thundering and lightning, so i just stayed on it the full loop.
The town is amazingly clean and green and well looked after, even the building sites have flowers on the fences.
Later on i went to the night time safari at the zoo. I had heard that they take you on a trailer through fields with elephants and buffalo and rhinos really close to it.
err, singular animals not plural in most cases, and so far away you could not see it................as, guess what?
it was dark!
I suppose the word "nightime" gives you a bit of a clue.
what a load of cobblers. Do you remember after swapshop on a saturday morning, there was sometimes a black and white tarzan show, with jonnie weismuller as tarzan?
Well that is what i had imagined in my mind.
Heards of wild animals running around the jungle and across the plains, not a single rhino 80 foot away in the shadow.
In fact it could even have been a cardboard cut out.
And even worse, the bus only takes you ona fraction of the safari, the rest you have to do on foot, and i got the taiwanese girl that hardly spoke any english, and kept forgetting what we had just seen, so we had to go back and look again.
Next day i had a flight at 9pm, so checked out the hostel and had a walk down to the quayside where i found another "Hooters" bar (they had a really cheap lunchtime special on - honest), and then i went up to the famous Raffles hotel and had the compulosry Singapore Sling cocktail in the billiard bar.
Not cheap at a tenner, but then you only live once.
You are supposed to drink in the "long bar", but that was full of common tourists..............ha ha.
So another box ticked, and another stamp in the passport.
Not that i am vain at all.....................
Next stop.................................New Zealand
