La paz is very hilly, you cant go anywhere without climbing!!! Needing water a b****.
Our first night in La paz Nate and Ben cooked us all chicken rice, we watched Armageddon (gets me everytime!!!) and most of us had an early night as we had the Death road booked first thing in the AM. In the morning Arron,Nate and Ben looked like utter bollox, it turns out they went out in the eve and hadnt slept. They got in as we were waking up. Crazy.
We got picked up at 8 for the death road. We drove up into the mountains where we got all our kit. Black trousers, bright orange top, full face element and gloves. SEX....ON....LEGS. At this point i was a tad worried, i was the only girl ina group of 16.
We got our bikes and had a play around on them for 10 15 mintutes. The first ride was on a paved road down hill about 10k. It was very fast but alot of fun. The scenery was amazing, mountains in a thick carpet of rainforest in the clouds. When we finished that part we had a snack, drove about 20 mins and got our tickets to the official death road. They boys were shocked that i could keep up and i got alot of high 5s lol. Was i finally being accepted into the "wolfpack"????
The death road is obviously gravel roads, this is where i was super worried. The road itself went on for about 30k im guessing? We went through the rain forest and under waterfalls, along cliff drops at least 100 metres. All the while it was pouring with rain, the fog was so thick i struggled to see the guide infront of us and it was thundering. It didnt bother me so much, as long as you are sensible itl be fine. Not so easily done when you are biking with boys who all think they have something to prove. I kept up with the front of the pack, at the bottom the guide brt me a beer he was impressed. A good thing or no? A tad patronising but a beers a beer. After the road we went to a hotel, chilled in the pool and had a buffet lunch. The bus back to la paz was 3/4 hours.
That night we planned a big night out. Nate Ben and Arron slept befor their head hit the pillow due to no sleep the night before. So us 4 English (Chris,Ben,Steven and Meeeee) went out. Was an awesome night, i bumped into acouple of ppl id met in Brazil afew weeks ago. However....we hit it abit to hard because the following day (Chris actual birthday) we were dieing and the other 3 felt fine.
Ben and Chris didnt get out of bed untill gone 4, Chris was made to do a shot at 4:30 resulting in him going back to bed for afew more hours. The other 4 that made a group of 12 in the salt flats met us and we went for Dinner to an English pub. Yes yes....ive come all the way to South America for Shepards pie!!! Chris was sick twice before finishing his dinner...but powered on through. I dont know how they do it but the boys seem to have the power to get control of the music where ever we go. We listened to BSB, Nate and Ben did a Duo to Celine Dion "its all coming back to me now"...possibly the funniest thing ever. Nate and Ben also have a really cool line dance thing they do...so they put on shania twain (all the guys im travelling with are straight btw) and taught everyone how to line dance. They did good on getting the party started. After the pub shananagins we went onto a club and got wrecked. We left at 7....missed sunrise as it was already light and the day had begun.
At 11am we were leaving on a 17 hour bus to the Jungle. I was never planning on going to the jungle as i couldnt/cant afford it. But i went shopping with the boys for the trek and it looked so good. I left it up to fate and flipped a coin. Heads i go jungle, tails i stay and carry on as planned....Heads it was. Cant go against fate?!?!?! Being Bolivia the bus didnt leave untill nearly 1. The scenery again...was amazing. The bus journey was scarier then the death road. Dad....can you remember when we were driving in Gran Canaria on those really steep cliffs??? It was very much like that but steeper and i was on a double decker bus!! We stopped in a small village on the way for some dinner. We had soup...at the bottom when we´d finished we noticed it had whole chicken feet in it. WHOLE FEET. Interesting... il stick to Oreos and snickers me thinks.
3 of the boys planned to fly to the jungle. That is the standard trip to fly there and back. But bussing it was saving us over half. The boys spent 2 days bragging about their luxury bus and how we are gona be sat with chickens etc. We arrived thismorning to find their flight was cancelled due to bad weather and they have to get the bus today. Sooooo funny. We are staying in town to wait for them and we will leave for the trek tomorrow. The town we are in (i have no clue how to spell it) is scenically alot like Thailand.
Fate again...because now i HAVE to change my flights. Im thinking il stay in SA for an extra 3 weeks and get to NZ for Christmas.
