Summary
Although it was short, a total of about 3 days, Slovakia was really cool. We were a week too early for the Dobsinska ice cave and our desperate pleas to the tourist info people went unheard so we went hiking into the Sokolia Gorge instead. This was definitely worth the effort. The following day we headed up in the Lower Tatra mountains and up to Chopok Peak that overlooks the High Tatras that borders Poland and Slovakia - incredible view. We wanted to walk up from the bottom but we were told we couldn't so we had to catch the cable car instead, the cable car then passed right over the top of all the walkers below us - WTF?. Not to worry, it was only 38 euro return and we wouldn't have enjoyed the view from the top as near as much. We ended our Slovakia experience with another hike into the Mala Fatra National Park that was really nice.
Just about all the natural environment in Slovakia is under some form of protection so it makes for a very beautiful country. You're not allowed to wild camp in the national parks but you are allowed to every where else which was a nice change, we hadn't had this since Montenegro. We did however get moved on by a rather unimpressed park ranger as we had inadvertently camped in a national park our first night. Thankfully he didn't issue us with any sort of fine and were pretty careful the remainder of our trip.
Over the 3 days we travelled about 500 km's and had no issues with the car. It felt like we walked nearly that far as well.
Speedometer: 152,232 km's
