We started our day with Yoga at 7.30 which was a basic class but a good stretch with our own instructor. After breakfast we took a taxi to Bhaktapur, a clean, preserved medieval town with a variety of ancient squares to explore. The old buildings & temples in the squares were much the same as elsewhere but it was a nice place to walk around & have lunch for a few hours. On our way back to the main square we came across a young grubby girl who was desperately upset, crying as she walked towards us. Stopping her & having a local shop translate it seemed she had been sent to get some 'bokola' (a type of bean) by her mum but some other kids stole her money. Thinking it would be an easy task we set about replacing the beans for her. After checking with numerous shops it seemed it wasn't quite in season so eventually we settled on purchasing some similar beans & set her on her way. Taking the long walk back to the main square we finally got a taxi and returned to Kathmandu to add to the rechargeable light we had bought before taking it as a gift to Nasrin & her sister at Local Woman's handicraft. We bought a few things from the supermarket then picked up a bag of vegetables for $1.50 & Ammie slashed out on an overpriced papaya at $4.50. Walking up to the shop we realised it was closed but were able to get upstairs where they lived and were welcomed with open arms. It was great to meet Nasrin after hearing so much of her story from Kaz, who also visiting. Enjoying a cup of tea & extended conversation about Nasrin's situation & the future of Local Woman's we finally left just as the neighbours started getting cranky about the noise of voices. For a late dinner we found a basic family run eatery in a back street where I had another even cheaper Thukpa for only 80 rupee (.85c)! We returned to the hotel to get organised for our long bus ride to Pokhara in the morning.
