BradnDad2014
Leaving Paris for Edinburgh and on to Dundee to catch up with the other half of our clan. We were welcomed with open arms and warm smiles. It was the highlight of Dean' adventure in 2012 and promises to be much the same for Brad.
Although we only had a couple of days in Scotland, we managed to fit in a trip to our ancestral home in Friockheim, often referred to as "The Friockheim Experience" by the younger members of the clan, due to the endless vacations to the area as children, with absolutely nothing to do.
We visited the actual house of Brad's Great Great Grandparents, only to find that the current owners live about 5Km away from us in Perth, Western Australia.. Freakish !
Although the weather had turned typically Scottish, our trip to Edinburgh Castle was an absolute barrel of laughs. Dragging out the silly hats we had collected along the journey, we somehow convinced the rest of the family to look as absurd as we have for the last 6 weeks. I have the fondest memories of the hop on/off bus ride around Edinburgh, the good nature of all involved will be with me forever.
The castle itself is an awe inspiring part of history, strolling around the grounds and looking out across Edinburgh, you are transported back in time, back to an era of unrest and civil upheaval.
You can only imagine what it must have been like to be on the "otherside" of this fortress.
After a thorough drenching, we managed to grab lunch in a tiny local pub and warmed ourselves before the trip back to Dundee.
Bidding fond farewells and promises of return, we headed for London on the 27th.
