BradnDad2014
The morning saw a late start and head out to breakfast. We were off to the much anticipate Segway tour of old Vegas. Brad, although never having used one before is fascinated by the concept. The only problem is going to be his weight!
Try as he might, he doesn't seem to be putting on any weight (no problem for moi)..
When Dean and I took them for a spin on our trip, the operators were quite strict on the minimum weight requirement... 45Kg, Brad has been hovering around 42.5Kg for a while.
At first we thought of "layering up", but it can get pretty hot out here in Nevada. Then we thought of carrying his backpack for the weigh-in, but didn't want to be made to take it off. So we came up with the left of centre idea you see in the photos. We took a bag full of sand from the beach in Santa Monica (we found the bag at the beach) and we put it with two weighty rocks from the hills of Hollywood, placed inside a pair of socks and tied together with one of his shoe laces. Fully intending to hang the rocks around his neck and stuff the bag of sand down his pants.... All up giving a combined weight of 2.5Kg....
When fitted up, Brad looked like something akin to a drug runner, but we were determined...
Confirming our 12.00pm booking the morning of the ride, I decided I could casually ask about height / weight requirements.. The lovely lady said the manufacturers limit the Segway to 260lb, but they can take more if I'm heavier than that... (give me another 3 months here I thought). When asked about the minimum, she said they weren't too concerned so long as he could control the machine....
Our efforts had been unrequired, but I thought I would share the thought pattern of two people with too much time on their hands... :)
After meeting out tour guides and another two guests for the tour, Brad was given his first test run. Taking to it like a duck to water after a few minutes we were off.
The old Vegas is very low rise, nothing like the Vegas strip. This is where all of the tiny little wedding chapel's are found. Gawd...
Moving right along, we came across the pawn shop that appears in "Pawn Stars"..
Usually the tour gets access to the shop, but they were in the middle of filming an episode, so it was a no go. Judging by the amount of tourists queued up outside, none of the deals they do would be real...
Then on to "Ricks Restorations". This is the complete opposite. They complete all restorations on the premises, and the people on the show actually work in the business. Even got to meet Rick for a split second...
Off on the Segways again, but the young girl we had with us just wasn't getting the hang of it... Eventually coming to a crashing halt near a busy road...
After sorting it out, we continued on with ourselves and the two tour guides.
Gliding through some of the seadier parts of town, we ended the tour at Fremont Street.
Fremont St is where it all began in the early 50's with neon lights burning 24/7.
Leaving the Segway's and heading off, we found an interesting collection of ummm "people".
Sitting down to the biggest burrito's we have ever seen at about 3.00pm, negated the need for dinner, so we spent the evening at Caesars..
PS, I've attached a video Brad made of our trip from LA to Vegas... Just for a giggle...
