BradnDad2014
It would appear we have brought the New York weather to Paris. Locals tell me it was fine all last week, but with heavy rain last night, the next few days look bleak…
Undaunted, we headed off for our Segway tour of Paris. I deliberately sought out the same Segway company Dean and I used in 2012.
Unfortunately Martin, our guide from 2012 has moved on to run his own walking tour company, but the business is still in operation. Googling the meeting point before setting out, we decided to walk from our place, along a few side streets to Champ de Mars, down a few more side streets and we would be there.
Great in theory… Not so good in practice..
With a little help from some locals, we managed to make it ahead of time, only to find the place completely locked up with a homeless man sleeping in the doorway..
Sheesh, he must have had a cold night... :(
Recalling the fact that very little happens in Paris before 10.00am, and we were early, I showed Brad where Dean and I stayed last time and grabbed a coffee.
The weather had started out quite fine this morning, but the grey clouds were building…
Benjamin, our guide turned up a short while later, but as the clouds had now turned to rain, we decided to postpone the tour until later today, agreeing to meet back here at 7.00pm.
Grabbing the subway to Montparnasse (mainly to keep out of the rain), we looked around for some clothes etc. With the Summer collection now in most stores, there was very little that caught our attention, and even less that fitted our budget.
Still a little jet lagged from yesterday, we headed home for a nana nap.
Heading off to the Eiffel Tower around 3.00pm, the unsettled weather was now working in our favour. With greatly reduced queues (about an hour), for the ride to the top of what is arguably the most recognised structure in the world, we jumped at the opportunity.
Eventually exiting the tower around 6.00pm, we just had enough time to grab a bite to eat before meeting for the Segway tour.
This time we met Gerard, the somewhat charismatic owner of the tour company. While he was entertaining, the tour was more of a ride around Paris on a Segway, than an informative tour.
Still, with fine weather all the way, it was great fun weaving in and out of pedestrians and seeing the sights of this beautiful city.
With the sun finally setting around 9.45pm, we headed home after what turned out to be a pretty full on day.
