Taking a break from the travelling and driving, we have chilled out in Miami for the last few days, (maybe more, I've lost count... :))
We are staying in a very trendy part of Miami known as South Beach. This is where the rows and rows of apartment blocks line the beach front. Lamborghini and Ferrari are common place. Beautiful people abound... Nah, not for me...
It has been a nice place to relax, but it really is too "showy".. It makes Hollywood look reserved and cultured..
We have hired a scooter to get about as parking is impossible. When parked, we have to return to Christine every 3 hours to pump more money into the meter. Even though she is in a parking lot, the maximum stay is 3 hours (apart from 6pm - 8am).
We headed off to the Kennedy Space Centre yesterday. As usual, not very well planned by me, the space centre is a 3.5 hour drive back up the coast to Orlando. Actually located in a town called Titusville, Cape Canaveral is an excellent place to visit.
We had a look around the centre for about 3.5 hours, it really is awe inspiring when you consider the Space Shuttle was originally conceived in 1969... Imagine the computing power (or lack of it) available in the day...
Getting up close to Shuttle "Atlantis", riding a shuttle launch simulator and just being completely amazed by the displays, it was well worth the drive.
We sat in on an Imax movie about the Hubble telescope. What an achievement!!
The Hubble telescope must rate as one the most significant pieces of technology in the history of man... Mind boggling stuff! If you haven't seen the documentary as yet, you really should...
Tomorrow, we are taking to the water for a boat tour of Miami.
