Brenton Kovacs's Travels
13/1
Yes its Friday the 13th and we are getting on a plane for a 6 hour flight. Luck we are not superstitious. We flew with Hawaiian Airlines. Good service and a nice flight. We landed at Honolulu, and had to catch another plane to the Big Island.
We are staying in a 3 bedroom house in Pahoa, whcih is about 20ks south of Hilo. The house is right on the edge of a rain forest. Really cool place.
14th to the 20th
This Big Island certainly has some amazing sights. We drove top the top of Mauna Kea. You drive form sea level right to the top of the mountain to 14,000 feet. I can tell you it was some drive. The last few miles were dirt road with no railings, so one mistake and it will result in death.
the view was breathtaking.
The Volcano National park was pretty impressive. Drove down to the southern part of the island to see where the lava is flowing into the sea, making more real estate for the Big Island.
Unfortunately you also get to see a lot of destruction where people have lost their homes. This is not a place i would like to be when the Volcano erupts.
The big island has some amazing scenery along the east coast. It is reported to have the cleanest air in the world. We did not drive to the west coast as it is just full of resorts. We wanted to experience to rugged side of the Island.
