Me, Ben, Joe, Nienke and Fran all got up super early today, in order to climb the big rick by our camping spot to watch the sunrise, which was well worth the bleary eyes!
Drove to Mt Connor, which is a tabletop mountain that could be mistaken for Ayers Rock! Had a quick photo session there then carried onto Uluru itself. For those of you that don't know (Sean) Uluru is Ayers Rock!
We had a wander round the Cultural Centre, learned about the history of Uluru and its people, but we got really hot so sat and watched the educational dvd in the air conditioned theatre!
Did a short walk round the base of Uluru, because we wanted to catch sunset we only did a few kms, halfway around the base. At around 6pm we piled into the car and headed up to the sunset viewing point. All the other tour groups emptied out of their coaches and buses and walked around trying to find a spot to stand so they could see and get a good picture. We however, climbed up onto the roof of the car, settled ourselves on the swags, got ourselves a can of grog out the esky, turned the stereo onto Oasis - Champagne Supernova, and watched the sun disappear over Uluru. It was undoubtedly the single best moment of my life....which sounds cheesy but it was really something!
We were the last people in the sunset spot as we waited around until the moon came up, which was also amazing! Camped up the road at Yulara campsite, had burgers for tea then swagged up and got an early night as its an early start tomorrow!
