We had a day of museums ahead of us, This was more James's idea than it was mine as they are all war related museums. I have no idea what happened in the Vietnam war so it kind of just goes over my head.
But first things first, I really needed to get my nails done.
I trip advised a place that look really nice, it took us about 20 minutes to walk there. Got in, and they said they didn't do nails, brilliant! I was tired from the walk and also very sad I couldn't get my nails done! We just went back towards the hotel and found a little salon underneath a hotel nearby so I chanced it and went it. We had to wait about 20 minutes for the 'nail technician' to actually turn up but thats ok. Anyways, after the long and painstaking process, I now have the worst nails ever and I feel very emotional about this. She took my gel varnish of with Cuticle trimmers….Nothing else needs to be said about this experience.
As soon as we got out (thank god) we jumped straight into a little tuk tuk and asked him to take us to the B52 bomber museum (joy). He said he would charge 200,000 dong (£6) to take us around for 2 hours, so we jumped in. Although this was unlike any Thailand tuk tuk, it was just a seat on the front of a bike so we felt really bad for the little man having to ride us around everywhere, plus it was rather slow. He didn't speak much english and didn't really understand where we wanted to go so actually rode past the museum first of all, after some pointing at the map and hand signals we rocked up at the B52 museum. We jumped out and actually didn't have to pay for entry for once! It was cool, I'm sure if James was writing this he would be a lot more passionate about it. But it was basically just a big plane that had been shot down in the war, they'd found pieces of it and tried to put it back together in the main courtyard. They had another plane and some missiles and guns scattered around, so that was that.
We then wanted to go to a lake with a B52 bomber in it, I actually wanted to go here because I thought that was pretty cool, it had been shot down in the war (obviously), landed there and they just decided to build a lake around it. However trying to explain this to our driver who spoke not one word of english was easier said than done. He took us to one lake first of all which was basically just a swamp… He must have questioned why we would have even wanted to go there! We told him this clearly didn't have a plane in it and then he got to asking other Vietnamese peeps. Eventually we got there, took some pictures and were on our way to somewhere we had no idea… We managed to work out he said he was going to take us somewhere but we could not understand where we were going. He kept doing gun and shooting actions, maybe a crashing plane too?? We didn't really have a clue but sat back and enjoyed the chaos around us from our little seat.
We went on for what must have been nearly an hour until we eventually reached the airforce museum (wooooo). James had really wanted to go here but her we had decided it was going to be too difficult to explain to our little taxi man so decided not to even bother asking, but this man knew what we liked and he took us there, Amazing!
It was actually pretty good and had loads of old planes and helicopters which you could have a proper explore around, we did have to pay for this privilege though (boo) it was 20000 dong each which is only 59p.
After taking some time to look around we went back to our little man, I had given James some change to give to him as a tip and then he asked for more, he spoke no english so trying to argue the fact that he should just be grateful was not getting us anywhere. Instead of standing there we decided to give in and double it. Very annoying!! But he had been driving us around for nearly 3 hours now….
We had to be up early in the morning as we've booked a 2 day cruise around Ha Long Bay and the pick up is @ 8am. Early night was definitely needed due to the 3 1/2 hour journey to even get to the pier. Earlier in the day we had brought tickets for a water puppet show, which is apparently a traditional vietnamese show (i'm convinced its only for kids). This started @ 6.30 so we had a beer beforehand to try and make the experience abit more enjoyable. It was only 45 minutes long but that was long enough… It was all spoken in Vietnamese so we didn't understand the story, or anything for that matter. So we spent the whole 45 minutes just looking at some puppets in water. It was definitely an experience but not one I wish to repeat. However James did take 800 GoPro pictures when we were in there so i cant escape from it that easily. He got a little too carried away trying out some modes on it.
After the show we went to an awesome place called Kangaroo Cafe, they do the best burgers ever!! Not as good as Atomic burger but they were still pretty good. James has seen a few burgers now with beetroot inside them so he decided to get involved. He loves beetroot and definitely didn't regret the decision to get involved. I passed on the opportunity to try it.
Feeling a little more satisfied we headed back to bed, before our early night we caught up on a few episodes of Gotham. Good night, sleep tight :-)
J&K over and out!
