Another day, Another adventure. Life really is tough... This time we headed into the Jungle for a 3 day trek as the Secret Seven, with representatives from top European cities - Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin & London. At first Vish was disappointed that there were no 'cool northerners' in our group, but we soon warmed to the Europeans who were a great laugh, which was lucky because we had to share very close confinements with them for the next 3 days.
Day 1 started with a 4 wheel drive into the country & then we picked up our adventure sticks for a brisk walk through shubbery to reach our hill tribe camp. I was expecting to meet hill people with bones through their noses, so was slightly disappointed to find them wearing jeans & using their mobile phones! Sadly, we didnt get to meet Dr O either as this has now been outlawed in Thailand, but the tribe did provide beer to reward us for a hard days work in the Jungle.
After the first day, I was starting to think this trekking business was a walk in the park compared to the Mountain climbing, but it wasnt til Day 2 that the hard work really began & we advanced into the Jungle, fighting off bloodsucking leeches & climbing waterfalls for a 6 hour trekking extravaganza. The leeches did cause rather a lot of trauma as they sucked up from the undergrowth & wiggled their way inside your shoes! We managed to keep them at bay, but the previous day, one unfortunate member of the group hadn't been so lucky. Apparently white plimsolls are also popular with leeches, as well as the whole of East London, yes you guessed, Vish was the unlucky victim! This of course was hysterical for the rest of the group, but poor Vish was left scarred for life, feeling violated by this traumatic experience!
We finished off the trek on Day 3 with some extreme sports - an Elephant ride through the Jungle & White Water Rafting. I definately want a pet Elephant. Chang, Chang, Chang!
So that was our Chaing Mai adventure, all good fun & got to meet some great people! Tomorrow we are making the 2 day boat trip down the Mekong into Laos, so very excited to finally get there - from what I've heard this is the only country that could possibly rival India! So let the games begin!
