Move over Mumbai, Bangkok is where its at! Yes, after just one night, Bangkok is in the running for my New Favourite City award!
After stepping back in time in Vintage Colombo, we have now gone the opposite direction & have fast forward 80 years to the most futuristic, modern city I have ever seen, with Skyscraper Shopping Malls & Skytrains! Granted we have only been here for 1 day & we are staying right Siam Sq which is shoppers paradise & home to the biggest shopping mall in Asia - Siam Paragon which is like a giant Selfridges! Obviously Vish is in his element, especially since we're staying on the 17th floor of an uber cool design hotel, with amazing views over the city!
Last night we drank champagne (which has now become mandatory on entering a new city!) & feasted on the most amazing 5 star Asian cuisine in a shopping mall! Now, you wouldnt normally associate shopping malls with 5 star cuisine, you're more likely to think screaming kids & dirty burgers (In fact, I wouldnt normally eat in a shopping centre at all after one particularly bad experience in St Johns Precint as a child) But this is Bangkok & the food court was like something out of Taste of London, with foodstalls from every possible country & everything cooked fresh in front of you! We had dimsum & sushi that would give hakkasan or roka a run for its money & it only cost a tenner (including beer!) & the setting was pretty swanky too, complete with a cabaret band!
Today I'm off to get my horrific roots bleached at Toni & Guy (it's been 3 months!), so everything is riding on this. If all goes according to plan, then Bangkok could well be the best city ever, but I dont want to speak too soon, I could end up with ginger roots or no hair, so it's touch & go. At the moment, it feels like I'm cheating on Mumbai with its older, richer, better looking cousin! Although, after tonight we're checking into the Koh San Rd, which I'm imagining to be like the Falaraki of Asia, so will have to wait & see!
