Our first city we visited in Northern Tahiland was Chiang Rai - nce we got off the bus we ere approached by a tout, we were a little weary at first but his accommodation looked promising and 20 mins out of the city which was great. We stayed in a rustic bungalow overlooking a tea plantation. We spent a day at a hot spring which was lots of fun. The real spring is far too hot to swim in so they've made a swimming pool which you can enjoy the warm water. They also had a "boiling egg basin" where you can buy eggs in bamboo baskets and cook them in the basin and enjoy them afterwards. We walked back to our lodge which was a lovely scenic hike, and visited two waterfalls on our way. From Chiang Rai we made our way to Chiang Mai. A really big city of wihc the main center is surrounded by an old city wall and a moat which gave it a lot of character. Tyron had the opportunity to watch a Tahi boxing matach and I attended a one day Thai cooking course which I loves. I received a recipe book and can't wait to try my favourite dishes when I get back home. From Chiang Mai we took a 14 hour train ride to a city called Ayuthaya, a world heritage site where the ruins of Burmese invasion stand - a real classical city with lots of character. The ruins are dotted all over the park and are best enjoyed by strolling through and discovering them from a distance. Of course there were many wats to visit - we decided a sunset boat ride would be best to see most of them.
Still wanting to trek in a National park we decided to visit Khao Yai National park in the east of Thailand. We visited the park for a day of which we were fortunate to see gibbons, giant hornbill and barking deer. Although very beautiful it had nothing on our parks at home.
Right time for some beach and sun. We made our way south stopping in Hua hin - Florida in Thailand, and then an overnight train to the very south near the boarder of Malaysia to Hat Yai. From here we took a bus to Satun where we caught a ferry to Palau Lankgawi and island in Malaysia.
