One week into my Au Pair duties and I'm still alive...
So far so good. I've gotten to know the kids a little bit now and it has been mostly good. There are three boys; Alex who is eight years old, Josh who is five years old and Patrick who is almost two years old. The two oldest are like best friends and play together all the time but do get into little spats all the time. Josh is at a very whiny stage and cries a lot. Alex appears to be an angel but when you play with them a little, you understand why Josh gets mad from time to time. It reminds me of when my brothers used to do anything to get under my skin, not that it took much because they knew how to do it easily. And last but not least, there's the baby Patrick. He is pretty fun most of the time but does have a few fits from time to time.
I am starting to get to know the city a little more each day. My main responsabilities include taking the kids to school, day care, tennis, rugby, and any other travelling that needs to get done. I haven't done much cooking yet as one of the grandmas has been visiting but when she leaves, this will be added to my to do list.
The weekend was good as I got to see Josh play rugby in Valenciennes and I learned how to make some Italian style pizza and spaghetti. Delicious!
I haven't gotten to know too many people outside of the family yet but I did go to the show once and have went walking almost every day. St. Patrick's Day was fun. Once the family was in bed, I decided to go out and found a bowling alley to hang out. I bought one beer and walked up to a group of six men and asked if I could join them. Luckily I wasn't in Paris and they said yes and they bought me a few more drinks and made it a fun night. The higlight of the night was finding my way home at the end of the night as I still don't know the city very well, (other than my routes to the kids outings, etc.)
