Josh here... Welcome to our blog. Is this how you start a blog?
I will miss out all the normal trudge through French motorways, the ferry, and nuances of European driving and jump straight in to where we are. Well, almost straight in.
Our first little anecdote of the trip came during one of the long boring runs through the plains of east France. Katy, realising I was losing the will to drive any further, offered to take control of Bertha for a couple of hours on the route de peage. Now it would be easy to tell you what happened next purely from my point of view, but let's just say that we both arrived at the next service stop in total agreement that Katy should be the emergency driver.
Next, part of Katy's tooth fell out, to add to an all round successful day. But Katy was willing to brave European dentistry and suggested we stop at the next big city, Turin, for a bit of medical tourism.
It turns out Turin is an underrated city - it's not only beautiful, but it's the home of Ferrero Rocher, Nutella, Lavazza coffee, Cinzano and Fiat. What's not to love? Happily it's also home to a friendly, English-speaking dentist who worked into the evening to fix Katy's tooth. Success.
The day ended with a trip on a hill-climbing cable car from Stazione Sassi for spectacular views of the city and its alpine backdrop. Thanks Turin - good job!
