Hello everyone.
Just so you know that this is Blair writing this entry, as a) its 1pm and Sarah is still asleep, and b) we had to fire the narrator guy who follows us around writing this stuff in 3rd person.
Its been a busy last month here in Perth, finding jobs, quitting jobs, finding new jobs and buying vans. In early January i managed to find a job in a call centre, trying to sell hotel membership schemes. The training week was ok, and plus i had to wear a shirt and trousers so i looked like a proper city boy walking to work every morning. Unfortunately the time came when i actually had to try and sell something, and after 2 days of reading from a script i decided that a career in telesales wasnt for me. Plus, these people who call you when your trying to eat your dinner happen to be really annoying in real life too! So it was back to a life of leisure for a few days until i landed my current job, which im glad to say i am really enjoying. Im doing maintenance and gardening work at a local grammar school, my first taste of some hard manual labour, with a 6am start, but its a new experience and the bulk of my day is spent cruising around on a quad bike or driving a ute! And i knock off at 2.30 which leaves afternoons free for lounging by the pool.
Sarah meanwhile was still holding out for some sort of dream career in PR or something. However money was starting to get tight so, despite my horror stories, as a last resort she got a job at the same call centre. She was winding me up saying she would easily last longer than the 5 days i managed to slug it out for, but, 2 days later she admitted defeat. 1-0 to me! To her credit though, she is now going to be working 2 jobs for our final fortnight in Perth. On Friday and Saturday nights, 10pm - 6 am ( hence why she is asleep!), she works in the cloakroom at some shady rave club, taking the coats and selling glo sticks to the creatures of the night. She is also away to start a reception job for 2 weeks, so she will be very busy, although, its not like she needs a break is it?!
Since we last wrote we have also bought the van which will hopefully get us to Sydney. It is a 1988 2.0l mitsubishi starwagon with 340000km on the clock. It has went really well so far though, getting me to work every morning. We are going to get it serviced before we hit the road because i dont know the first thing about cars, in fact Sarah might know more than me. It is a fine machine though, the only problem being we cant decide on a name for the beast. This has led to heated debate in our house. Im set on the name Ernie which when you see him you will agree it suits him. Sarah however refuses to acknowledge this so any suggestions are welcome, please leave them on our message board! Has to be a boys name though.
Another recent highlight was our night out seeing The Police on their reunion tour. It was one of the best concerts iv been to, and according to Sarah, Sting is hot for an old man. I have also bought ticets to see a hero of mine, Jack Johnson, in Melbourne next month so i will be dragging Sarah( probably literally, a fan she is not) to see him then.
So its a couple more weeks of work here in Perth before we start the big drive.
Bye for now
Blair (and Sarah) xx
