Hello again everyone! We are currently in the resort town of Krabi. Its very touristy but even hardcore adventure travellers like us need to relax!
After we posted our last entry we took another night train which took us back to Bangkok, and this time we managed to see some of the famous sights. First of all we went to the Grand Palace, an amazing series of extravagant and beautifully designed buildings, which included the temple housing the Emerald Buddha. Later that day we met our group that we are spending the remainder of our journey to Singapore with. We are now joined by 8 Irish, 2 English, 2 Norwegian and an Aussie. We have been together 6 days now and its fantastic, a great bunch of people. That night we all went for dinner and then drinks on the infamous Khao San Road, the main backpackers area of Bangkok.
The next day we hopped in a tuk-tuk and went to Wat Pho, home of the 46 ft reclining gold Buddha, which actually lived up to expectation, and another complex of beautiful buildings and gardens. That afternoon it was time to leave Bangkok. After the serenity of the jungle and relative calm of Chiang Mai it was a shock to the system returning to the capital. It is polluted and congested and you are constantly on guard for people trying to con you. After 2 days we were happy to escape. That said it was great to experience the city. We took another bumpy and sleepless overnight train to our next stop, Khao Sok National Park.
We stayed at Morning Mist Resort, in little huts in the jungle below towering cliffs. It was really peaceful. That afternoon we went tubing down the Sok river, which basically involves going down a river on the inner tube of a lorry tyre. Great fun, even if there were some hungry fish who decided to feast on Sarahs finger! The next day the more energetic one of the two went for a hike through the park, while the less energetic one went swimming in the killer fish-infested river with some of our group. in the evening the whole group went for a bbq at a local reggae bar, and it turned into quite a late night thanks to a little persuasion from the eccentric owner.
Next morning it was a 4 hour bus ride to our current location, Krabi. We are in small beach huts really close to the sea and you can hear the waves on the shore from them. We slapped on the factor 30 and had a lazy afternoon on the beach. This morning we all went sea kayaking which was great. we paddled through lagoons and caves and submerged forest which were inhabited by friendly monkeys, which jumped onto our kayak so we could feed them pineapple. Tomorrow we are off snorkelling at Ko Phi Phi which we will tell you all about in our next post.
Until then
Love Blair and Sarah xxx
