Well folks, hankies at the ready because this will be the last blog. After 9 fantastic months its time to come home and attempt to rejoin normal society!
After visiting the Colca Canyon, which is apparentely twice as deep as the grand canyon and is home to huge condors, we took our last night bus from Arequipa to Nazca, famous for the mysterious lines carved into the earth of various animals and symbols by the Incas. While I relaxed by the pool at our hotel, enjoying the sunshine before heading back to a Scottish summer, Sarah took a near vomit inducing light aircraft flight over the lines.
It was then a short bus ride to the coastal town of Paracas. We stopped of en route for a spot of dune buggying and sand boarding at the massive sand dunes nearby. Whilst in Paracas, we we had a boat trip out to the Ballestas Islands, home to sea lions and a lot of birds. They also harvest bird dropping here to make fertiliser. Given that the trip involved boats and birds, Sarah remained safely onshore. It was then time for our final south american bus journey, and it was a typical one, with about 80 people wedged into the 50 seater bus. Home is going to seem so boring!
Which takes us to Lima, capital of Peru, grim in some places, very swish in others, where we have been doing very unPeruvian things like go the cinema and Pizza hut. And having cocktails at the Marriot. We are having one last stroll around the Miraflores district today before bidding farewell to our group. Up at 3am tomorrow to start the long trip home via Miami and Heathrow.
Love Blair and Sarah xxx
