We arrived in Bucharest today at 6:10 in the morning.? Unfortunately I didn't not get any sleep at all.? Dale got a good nights rest though.? Oh by the way, I am tired of writing in third person.? Unless otherwise stated this will be Blaine writing.? John, the guy we met on the train, helped us find the nearest internet cafe so we could find which hostel we were staying at.? It turned out that we were both staying at the same hostel.? It was a little difficault to find because, well Bucharest is a messed up city.? The streets don't have signs and they change names mid street.? In addition the hostel didn't have a sign because it was brand new.? In fact we were the first guests.? The staff was great which consisted of "grandma" and her younger niece.? Grandma made us an awesome breakfast and would not let us lift a finger.? She didn't speak any English, but was super sweet. After Breakfast we decided to get lost again.? This time in the worst part of Bucharest.? We were searching for the Triumph Arch and finally found it after a few subways and assistance form la Policia.? Oh also Romanian is a cross between Italian and Spanish, not sure how it came to be but it was very different and hard to understand.? The Metro was very good and had quite a few lines for the small city that it was.? It was also spread out and very distinct from one part to the next, unlike Sofia.? Once we found the Triumph arch we decided it best to have lunch.? It was an upscale place but the setting was beautiful.? We learned a valuable lesson that day, meals in Europe don't come with anything not listed.? Although I had specifically asked if a salad came with my meal 3 times I still got a salad at a cost of roughly 6 dollars.? Meals are also much smaller portions.? After the arch we took the metro straight to People's Palace, the 2nd largest building behind the Pentagon.? It was beautiful.? Unfortunately it was closed for a grand prix type race.? By the looks of the cars parked around it was a whose who of Eastern Europeans.? We walked around and decided to headed back to the hostel at 5.? We took a short nap and ate dinner.? While we were sleeping grandma actually fell down the stairs and was taken to the hospital.? Dale and I had no idea until we woke up.? John and Juhann, another backpacker that checked in, assisted her back up to the first floor.? After we woke up we decided to go out with some other people from the hostel, but they didn't go out till 12:00 and we didn't get back till 4 or 5.? We were able to see some parts of Bucharest that we missed.? They took us to a Russian bar an a few others. We ended the night being greeted by grandma at the door.? We are still not really sure when she sleeps.? We are going to go to Brasov tomorrow when we wake up.
