G-day mates,
After leaving the best place we've been since we arrived in oz (surfer's paradise), were now back in a city, this being Brisbane. We drove around when we arrived looking for a hostel and came to 'Prince Consort Backpackers' hostel which turned out to be cheap but we have to stay in a room with about 30 other people and believe me, unless you've had a drink and knocked yourself out you get woken up at all hours with people coming in and out and a chinese girl who coughs ALLLLnight! (I thought the SARS problem that they had in China a few years ago was cleared up, obviously not! lol). The hostel in general is alright, free pool and dvds, a ps2 and an xbox which we mess around on in the day. Underneath the hostel is a british pub which is handy as we don't have far to stumble home when were off our crackers, well not me but the other boys seem a bit lightweight!
Were situated in Chinatown, which as you can imagine, is full of Chinese and therefore full of chinese restaurants. Was tempted to go in one the other day but the bad memories of Thailand and Malaysia came back so I thought i'd give it a miss. The city is a 10 - 30 minute walk away depending on how much we've had to drink or how little sleep we had the night before. Taxis are a no-no seeing as were all poor, (but we can somehow find money to get pissed), so we walk in the baking heat. There's an artificial beach down by the river which we went to a couple of times, mostly in the afternoon when the sun was going down as we couldn't get out of bed early enough. The beach is ok but the last two days have been cloudy so we've just been playing pool allday.
We booked our tickets for Fraser Island the other day which set us back a few dollars but it'll be worth every penny in the end, look out for the photos soon! Tommorow (weds) we are going to Australia Zoo which is the one where Steve Irwin used to work (bless the big man) and it should be a quality day out. Been watching some videos on the website and it looks awesome but they can keep those bloody snakes away from me, not holding one of them for any amount of money in the world! Will be good to see the elephants, koalas and some kangaroos seeing as i've not seen one yet.
The nightlife in Brisbane is pretty poor but maybe its because we don't know where the good places are. We've been going to a place called 'Down under bar" Which is a backpackers bar. We made the mistake of going in there 'sober' last night which wasn't a good idea as it was karaoke night and it was doing our heads in but the 'el vino' did flow after that and the night turned out to be ok. We got in at five then played pool with an English girl and a French girl til six then finally got to bed. I've been lucky so far as no - one was sleeping on the bunk above me but tonight, on our final night here, some girls have moved in and the girl above me is a pretty big lass and I think they're going out tonight so they're sat getting drunk and all i'm thinking is how is she going to get up there when she gets in because its fairly high and hard enough to get on when your sober. Might have to get a crane to hoist her up if she's having trouble so she doesn't wake me up. We've got to be out of the room by 10 so i'm going to need some kip tonight but i'm not very confident that that will happen (attack of the SARS girl).
Thats about it from Brisbane, like I said, tommorow we go to the zoo and are then staying in a place called Noosa for a few days which is a beach resort (Get innnnnnnnnnn there!!!!) before heading to Fraser. The old tan is starting to fade but a few days on the beach will sort that little problem out. Thanks to everyone whos been leaving messages on the board, good to hear from ya all and I hope ya all good in Rainland!
Take care and speak to ya soon
